Hi Duchess - this isn't an active group.  Here's the link to another Ballston Spa group that is a little more active (but not much):

The nuke moms page is the most active of the nuke groups!

Don't know if anyone still following this group.  My son started in November.  Just finished his first rotation of day watch, had 4 days off and was able to come home for couple of days.  Will be interesting to see how he does with mid shift and then midnights.  He has never had those kind of hours before.

Hi BeverlyS, First off, you might want to join this group: http://navyformoms.com/group/momsdadsfamilieswithnukesinballstonspany

it is more active than this one.
There isn't an actual base for NPTU - it is on the campus of the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory - Kesselring facility, run by Bechtel Corp. you can use this address for reference (google maps references the guard gate to the facility): 360 Atomic Project Road, Ballston Spa, NY
My son graduated in Sept, but he is also leaving on the 21st. They will have a briefing about housing. There is privatized base housing run by Balfour Beatty at Naval Support Unit, Saratoga Springs - it is about 10 miles from the NPTU. facility - my son and a roomate are going to share a 2 bdroom unit there. A lot of nukes also rent at the Winner's Circle Apartments in Saratoga Springs. AHRN.com lists apartments and private rentals in the area approved for Navy. These are some links that I sent to my son:

So I'm trying to help my son find a place to live since he is now Grad and Go on Nov. 21.  Does anyone here know the address of the base?  We are trying to determine locations and where is too far away, etc.

Going to see my son and wondering where to stay??  Is there a Navy Lodge or Navy Inn up there? Any suggestions?

If anyone has a sailor heading up to ballston spa and needs any furniture or household items, please message me and I'll forward my son's email address to you.  He just got his orders and will be leaving in less than 2 weeks.  He has quite a bit of furniture and other household items that he has no use for.  They were also renting a nice little 3 bedroom duplex that will be vacant as of May 15.  He has a queen size bed frame, mattress and box spring that was purchased last May too.

Looking for information on NPTU graduation for class 1302.  An older schedule says late Dec but I understand that's been delayed to Jan.  Anyone with good, specific information about this?

Comment by Jennifer G on August 8, 2013 at 1:33pm

My son is starting there mid Sept.
I am at work and not supposed to be on there... can anyone tell me here -

if he is in Goose Creek for Power School and graduates Aug 23rd, can he secure an apartment over the phone/internet/email or must he go there in person during his leave?
