The Ten OPSEC and COMSEC Points:

Don't discuss future destinations or ports of call!
Don't discuss future operations or missions!
Don't discuss dates and times of when we will be in port or conducting exercises!
Don't discuss readiness issues and numbers!
Don't discuss specific training equipment!
Don't discuss people's names and billets in conjunction with operations!
Don't speculate about future operations!
Don't spread rumors about operations!
Don't assume the enemy is not trying to collect information on you so he can kill you, he is!
Be smart, use your head, and always think OPSEC and COMSEC when using email or phone!

Rules of thumb for parents and loved ones:
*If your sailor indicates to you they can't tell you something, believe them. Don't try to coax them into telling.
*If it is published by the navy about where a ship or unit has been (not going), that is when it's okay to share.
*If your sailor is in a high security area, say a nuke or EOD, consider using a nick name for them and you, a seperate email without your name on it, and don't even tell where YOU live. Let them tell you what they want you to tell others or if they are worried about info, always let them know you are on here. That's why they are careful on here about only putting first names on your profile page.
*Be aware, the OPSEC 10 points are about what they can't talk about. Think about what YOU might share as a parent or loved one of a military member that could cause trouble. You also have a responsibilty.
*Be respectful and teach other parents if they don't know and say too much, no need to be disrespectful or mean to them about it. Just guide them and let them know they maybe need to rewrite or delete the post. There isn't a member on here that wants to cause trouble or harm. They just aren't thinking or don't know.

Hi guys! My honey is in basic PIR 05/18.. and after he will be going to Missouri for A school. He’s a Seabee and rate is EO. any tips ? Thanks!

My son is a fairly new Seabee and seems to be right where he is meant to be.  He is really enjoying himself this month as he finishes up combat training in Mississippi before heading back to Port Hueneme.  I have found that many people have not heard of the Seabee group; however, those that have heard of it, have nothing but great respect and positive comments for these individuals.  I am super proud, but anxious as we get closer to deployment in a few months.

If anyone wants to chat, send me a message.  This site really was a blessing for me when my son (18) left for Boot Camp last September.  Best wishes to all!

Mia...my son will also be an EO. He graduates from BC 05/04. Should fly out to Missouri on the 5th. In my opinion, being a Seabee, is one of the best jobs in the Navy! Seabees are a small, tight knit group of men and women within the Navy. Due to this, most people have never heard of them. I think your son made a wonderful choice!

Rate will be EO. Big change from aircrew, but some unknown/never-had-issues medical issues ruled that out. There were only a few choices the date our Sailor was told to make a choice in THU...this was it. Funny, my army son-in-law was at the same location our sailor will be.

Hello! I am a new Seabee mom! My son was SO but had to take another path in the Navy. He was very lucky to get the Seabee rate and will be UT- which is utilities man. Basically all things related to water, irrigation, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment etc. From what I have read the Seabees are a lot like the Army Corp of Engineers. They date back to WW1 and are a small and very respected part of the Navy. Currently my son is on hold waiting to begin his classwork. If you message me I can give you more details such as locations etc.

Mia,  The Seabees are the construction battalion of the Navy (hence the name for CB), otherwise known as the "dirt sailors".  Many people have never heard of them but they are integral to all parts of what is done.  It depends on what rate (job) your son is assigned, such as builder, heavy equipment operator, electrician, etc, what he will do and where he will be.  There is a FB group Navy Seabee Moms that you might want to check out.  My son is a builder and has been in 12 years.  Time flies and it is a good part of the Navy to be in.  So many of the answers will depend on his job and where he will be stationed out of.  Ask questions as much as you want and I hope this is helpful.

Ours is also a Seabee. Started out wanting to be Aviation Ordinance. With ASVAB scores and abstract reasoning scores, ended up a Seabee - construction electrician. We are pleased for him. Everyone does not always get what they want.

We just found out that our sailor will now be a seabee...can anyone gelp me with what exactly that means? The 'plan' was air, so this seems a definite change. I'm starting my research all over again.
