The Ten OPSEC and COMSEC Points:

Don't discuss future destinations or ports of call!
Don't discuss future operations or missions!
Don't discuss dates and times of when we will be in port or conducting exercises!
Don't discuss readiness issues and numbers!
Don't discuss specific training equipment!
Don't discuss people's names and billets in conjunction with operations!
Don't speculate about future operations!
Don't spread rumors about operations!
Don't assume the enemy is not trying to collect information on you so he can kill you, he is!
Be smart, use your head, and always think OPSEC and COMSEC when using email or phone!

Rules of thumb for parents and loved ones:
*If your sailor indicates to you they can't tell you something, believe them. Don't try to coax them into telling.
*If it is published by the navy about where a ship or unit has been (not going), that is when it's okay to share.
*If your sailor is in a high security area, say a nuke or EOD, consider using a nick name for them and you, a seperate email without your name on it, and don't even tell where YOU live. Let them tell you what they want you to tell others or if they are worried about info, always let them know you are on here. That's why they are careful on here about only putting first names on your profile page.
*Be aware, the OPSEC 10 points are about what they can't talk about. Think about what YOU might share as a parent or loved one of a military member that could cause trouble. You also have a responsibilty.
*Be respectful and teach other parents if they don't know and say too much, no need to be disrespectful or mean to them about it. Just guide them and let them know they maybe need to rewrite or delete the post. There isn't a member on here that wants to cause trouble or harm. They just aren't thinking or don't know.

Thanks Tobianne. I do appreciate any words of comfort however a wrap around the pole and gaffs are not a safety harness that will prevent falls. Every group that goes through has several injuries. I can assure you he has at least a moderate amount of fear especially after watching his roommate fall. I afraid he is quickly approaching the point of having to much fear. They really should have a supersqueeze or some other safety apparatus which would prevent a lot of these injuries. I can not wait until this part is over! I think he has today and 2 days next week.

I think block 5 is 2 1/2 weeks. Karen, I sent you a msg.

@Karen, unless things have changed..... they do have safety gear. I am positive they have a harness, as well as the spikes that go on the boots. Now the harness is what goes around the pole. That should not be all, but is better than nothing. It is scary since it seems when the pole has been climbed by so many that the holes get bigger. They do change out the poles and explain how to keep from falling. I know that sounds easier said than done. Trust me, I was in your shoes. As I had mentioned before, have him stay calm, but not over calm. To have a moderate amount of fear is actually good, too much is bad and none is a disaster waiting. He should be getting close to being finished, can not remember how long they climbed. That really was one of the least things I worried about. lol I still did, and when she fell it made it worse, but it does get better.

Lighthouse3:  I am so jealous.  I miss my son so much.  Poor kid is right in the middle of pole climbing and having a really rough time.  Yesterday is roommate fell 30 feet and broke his leg.  I am getting frantic texts and phone calls every night about how unsafe it is and how they do not give them safety equipment and he is so worried he will fall.  I dont know how to comfort him and it just breaks my heart.  I hope your Son is feeling better and I pray for quick healing for him.  Hug your son tight!  Safe travels

We actually stopped at the McD's in FLW today on our way down to Sheppard AFB tomorrow. I thought about the Seabees that are training there, although we only ran into Army BC graduates.

Thanks everyone. All the information is greatly appreciated. It is great to at least hear what may be in store in the next few months.  I am quickly learning that nothing is dependable. My cousin's husband has been in for 25 years and they are still getting surprises all the time about leave time and deployments.

C school is something that is done after. Not all Seabee's get to do C school. I think you may be confusing ECS training done at GP.
Not all Seabee's get leave after A-school either. It just depends on where they report to and if that battalion is on deployment. Well actually many things go into why they can or can not have leave. My kiddo went from A school in TX, to Gulf Port for ECS. She had 3 days of leave or before she actually needex to report. From there off to PH. Then she had some leave and decided to go back to GP to visit friends that were going to deploy very soon. It is all about what the Navy wants at that moment. So to say he will get leave is hard to say. They build this leave up crom the first day of BC. So when they do use any, it goes against them. Unless this is used in moving from base to base. Meaning they are driving. And even then it is a crap shoot. Again, just depends on what the Navy needs at that minute.
I am not positive, but I do believe my kiddo was at GP for 8 weeks for ECS. I can ask her when I speak to her. May be a day or so as she is deployed right now.

Debi, yes my son's order say GP for 8 weeks after A School.  azplantlady, I thought they went straight to GP for C School!  That would be great if he had a little time in between!

Hello Beachmom and CBGB. My daughter is an EO and graduates from FLW next week. She will be coming home for 2 weeks and is then off to GP for 4 weeks. She was then told that she will have 4 days before reporting for duty at Port Hueneme. Hope this helps you get a sense of the timing.

Beachmom did your son's orders say he was going to GP for 8 weeks? I know only 4 of my son's class actually went to GP. Elias ended up in D.C. with a CBMU which has been another adventure in itself! We're all learning the ropes at that new base! lol Definitely NOT like A school!
