Lighthouse, my son was dropped off at O'Hare at 2:30am the day after PIR. He found a recliner in the USO club and slept till we arrived at 11am. We spent the day together until he flew out to California at 5:35pm. I was amazed at the number of people who stopped him to shake his hand and speak a few words of thanks and encouragement. Even though we had a 5 hour drive home I would do it all over again.
Thanks for the info. I saw your post the other day about DC. We live in NY, I would be pretty happy if he was sent to DC.
The morning after our son's PIR (5/24/13) the sailors were dropped at O'Hare at 12:30 a.m.--to wait until their flight boarded (his was 8:30 or 9 a.m.) We joined him around 2 a.m. We live 50 miles away. It was a very exhausting morning (and my birthday), but definitely worth it. Our son greatly appreciated our having come. If the sailor shows his military I.D., he and his family get very nice treatment from the TSA.
Hi CBGB and Beachmom, Here's what I know from my son's experience. When he flew to FLW he flew out of Ohare airport. He flew to St. Louis and then had a puddle jumper to FLW. He arrived the first week in May and is now having his graduation on Aug. 9 (so he will be there for 14 weeks but his 'classes' were 12 weeks.) He is not being sent to Gulf Port (yet) for battle training. He's being sent to Washington DC as part of CMBU 202 , which if I"m correct is an Amphibious Construction Battalion unit detachment. FLW does not do the combat training..that's Gulf Port. So I don't know when or IF my son will end up at Gulf port for battle training. He's an EO so who knows...it's a mystery..ohh wait! ITS THE NAVY :) LOL
CBGB, My sailor is going to FLW also! I heard they have 3 weeks of combat training but I assumed in was at FLW.
Hi I am wondering about A school too. My son will be going to FLW. Does anyone know what airport they usually fly out of after PIR? Also how long is the EO A school, I have seen a range from 10-14 weeks. One more question- my son said after A school in FLW he has to go to Gulfport to combat training? Does anyone know about this? Thanks for any info you have I really appreciate it.
If your Seabee went to GulfPort for A school, what airport did they fly out of from BC?? I need to get out tickets to PIR and I'm trying to decide what airport to fly into and out of. We are planing to use Southwest since they are the best price but we want to spend as much time with our SR as we can.
My son arrived in California for his A school training Saturday night. He told us he starts classes on Aug 5. After 12 weeks he will have two weeks leave and then back to California for parts B and C of his training. He told us PH would be his home base. I understand that there are three Seabee training bases. Are there certain areas these three bases cover when they are deployed?
