Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

The Ten OPSEC and COMSEC Points:

Don't discuss future destinations or ports of call!
Don't discuss future operations or missions!
Don't discuss dates and times of when we will be in port or conducting exercises!
Don't discuss readiness issues and numbers!
Don't discuss specific training equipment!
Don't discuss people's names and billets in conjunction with operations!
Don't speculate about future operations!
Don't spread rumors about operations!
Don't assume the enemy is not trying to collect information on you so he can kill you, he is!
Be smart, use your head, and always think OPSEC and COMSEC when using email or phone!

Rules of thumb for parents and loved ones:
*If your sailor indicates to you they can't tell you something, believe them. Don't try to coax them into telling.
*If it is published by the navy about where a ship or unit has been (not going), that is when it's okay to share.
*If your sailor is in a high security area, say a nuke or EOD, consider using a nick name for them and you, a seperate email without your name on it, and don't even tell where YOU live. Let them tell you what they want you to tell others or if they are worried about info, always let them know you are on here. That's why they are careful on here about only putting first names on your profile page.
*Be aware, the OPSEC 10 points are about what they can't talk about. Think about what YOU might share as a parent or loved one of a military member that could cause trouble. You also have a responsibilty.
*Be respectful and teach other parents if they don't know and say too much, no need to be disrespectful or mean to them about it. Just guide them and let them know they maybe need to rewrite or delete the post. There isn't a member on here that wants to cause trouble or harm. They just aren't thinking or don't know.

DaltonsMom..What a wonderful Mother's Day gift! Good for you and good for your boy!

Please help me with the acronyms..FTX and ECS..yikes I am Military Acronyms deficient. I know there is "Navy Speak" on the side bar >>>>but so far anything that I have plugged into it comes out saying , "Sorry!"

Also, is it ok to send my SR from the airport in Chicago over to GP with his laptop and cell phone?

Again..thanks for all of the help..this soon-to-be-Seabee Mom is very needy (teehee)

FTX in GP does not allow anyone to have cell phones or any other electronics they can get care pkgs that must be hand delivered to the base open and inspected before they are delivered to the Seabees. Congrats Dalton's Mom that is happy news!

I hope all the Seabee Moms are doing fabulous this week! My son is in A-school currently (CE) and he just learned this week that his commanding officers picked him for a great opportunity for his first duty station! Please say a little prayer for him. He is so looking forward to this opportunity! He just started all the paperwork for his security clearance! I'm so proud!

Haydens's mom. This could be a guess of how long it will take. My daughters was roughly 12 weeks-14 weeks.

ECS is done after A-school and FTX is usually done before a deployment. FTX is field excersize, they live outside in tents, usually. This is how it is done in CA. Each SeaBee base does it a bit different. PH was not allowed to get any mail or boxes from home since this was to ready them for anything, while GP was able to get these things. They do take things with them (phone, snacks and the like)

they eat MRE's and in CA showers are a limited item! the first week I think. From there they must keep themselves clean, my daughter as well as most take wet wipes.

Her battalion is on FTX right now, she is not with them as she is week 3.5 post surgery. So she is pet sitting. lol

Hayden's Mom: It depends on which unit or ship he will be attached to after A School.  He probably does not know yet, since they don't usually find out until the end of A School.  There is also ESC and FEX schools to attend, but depending on assignment, they don't always go right into those courses.  My son's A School (he is a CM) was only about 7-8 wks and he immediately went into ESC. (which is only 3-4 wks).  One of the things that you learn right away in the Navy is patience.  Sometimes things are a "hurry up and wait" pace, and sometimes things move very, very fast.  And, it is difficult to make plans while they are new, because plans change in the drop of a hat.  You will find out when   you will find out.  Learning to trust and let go takes some time.  Don't "read" too much into it, or you will worry yourself crazy.  :)

Good Morning Seabee Moms!

Would anyone know why my sons A school in Gulf Port would be cut from 14 week to 7 weeks? His rate is SW. Is this common? He is 3 weeks away from PIR..so excited to see him! Thank you for your continued support ladies..it means a lot!

Debi - There is 2 guys to a room and they (the two of them) share the bathroom.  They must keep it clean as they have inspections all the time and it needs to be very clean.

Amy - So sorry about the loss of your son.  My heart breaks for you.  So awesome of you to stay on here and help others.

Yes there is a very informal graduation ceremony after A school however most families do not attend. Photos are posted on Facebook on the NCTC Gulfport page.

Thanks Sandria...it's hard to believe that I'll be headed down to Chicago sometime in the next 18 hours to spend time with my sailor before he leaves. I was ready for this day the weekend of his PIR. Now I've gotten used to him being only 45 minutes away..and now he goes lol. At least the Navy is ripping the bandaid off quickly by sending him out only 3 days after he received his new classification.

Sandria..so it's two guys to a room/bathroom or do they share the bathroom with other rooms like in a dorm situation? I know each A school is a bit different in their housing set up.
