For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

My son is Nav/ET and spent all of his Sub school in Groton. That was 4 years ago, so it may have changed. He is going to another class in Kings Bay at this time. But he has not been to any other schooling anywhere else other than on his assigned base until now. He is not a nuc. He is on a Fast Attack.
lynnvikings - We flew into Hartford for our son's A school graduation. We did not attend BESS graduation because he told us it was not a big deal like PIR. You will want to rent a car because it is about at least an hour drive to Groton, if I remember correctly. I cannot remember the name of the hotel we stayed at; we did not know about the Navy Lodge at that time. I did not find Navy for Moms until he had already arrived at his first base! Enjoy your trip!

Enlisted nucs never attend BESS, they get enough training in prototype to prepare them adequately. Once they get to a boat, they will get a submarine damage control class for a week or two, but not necessarily in Groton. Many enlisted nucs (including myself) never set foot in Groton, unless they're assigned to a boat that's homeported there.

Thank you! Is it hard? Also is all sub schools in Groton. I was told he could end up in quite a few different Sub bases?

lynnvikings....you are in the right track. Even if you look the events in the diablo website, they have there as event #1 the BESS graduation. Is good that you bought the insurance. Hopefully your son do good in BESS. Sound mean but is just that sometimes the sailors struggle a little and they got send back. But if he is passing all the test and you hear him positive that is a good sign. Now about hotel, I love the Navy Lodge. Since my son is in the Navy, (left last Oct), I used Navy Lodge. Phone # 860-446-3119 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 860-446-3119 end_of_the_skype_highlighting in Groton, you can call and make the reservation, your son is a Seaman Apprentice, you need this to make the reservation. In my last trip I ask them if they allow (us) to check in if my son have duty and they said yes and your son have 24 hours to check you in. If your planning to get there Thursday morning you can't check in before 3 and is perfect because there is the 24 hours in case he have duty that day. Then in the next 24 hours he need to go to the front desk give his navy ID and sign you in. If he is available he just need to jump in the car and check you in right away. The morning of the graduation he need to meet you in the 2nd gate, (there is a office and parking space) and jump in the car and go through the gate with you. If you rent a car (best way) you just need to show the rental agreement and his ID. Don't worry if he take a little time if he know that your coming he will go and get you. Is a nice feeling, writing this and is like I'm going through again, waiting for my handsome sailor. Hope this help!!

cheri, my son left gl on 7/23...if he started bess the ffollowing week...i am thinking the sept 23 would make sense for a 7 week class..The uss diablo is my son's class name.and i saw on the uss dablo website that there is a reunion planned on sept 22 and 23 in groton. They are planning on attending the BESS graduation that day and to me it would only make sense that the DIABLO class would be graduating that day. Now i just have to make sure my son is going to graduate that day. :)....i did buy the insurance on the ticket so if i don't use it, i get my money back....YIKES!!!

rose7, i just booked my flight to groton....flying to hartford ct...never been to the east coast....any advice on what my husband i should do would be welcomed....like should we rent a car? where do we stay ? Help!!!!! we fly in on thursday morning. so we will have all day thursday. We fly home on sunday. Yikes! i hope he is graduating the weekend of sept 22 cause i now have a flight there!! :)
