Hello everyone , my name is Vicky my son left on Dec 15, I was really anxious to hear from him and i did in letters, but i just wanted to hear his voice, My call came in at 3:30 pm after four weeks of waiting, I was so excited i had to swallow the big lump in my throat to talk to him , it was great!! His older sister got to talk with him also , we talked for about 23 min, he is doing good passing tests and getting his shots, he got the peanut butter one he hurt for a week, they took out his wisdom teeth , everything went fine with that :) I'm really excited to see him on the 18th of Feb, for his PIR. i cant wait I really like this site i have gotten alot of good info just with everyone, Thank you!

My son's wife got a call yesterday also. It must have been call day for everyone.

She said he was doing well. As others have said in these e-mails, he said he didn't pass his running test.

Didn't get a letter yesterday, but can't wait to check the mailbox when I return from work. Have a great day all!

No letter today, but...my recruit called tonite!!  It was total hysteria in my home!  My husband was yelling "caller ID says pay phone.  Area code 847".  I was running around looking for the phone, then pressed the wrong button and about hung up on him!   Still shaking!

He passes a pt test and another test with flying colors, so he earned the call.

He says things are going real well.  A lot of marching, studying, folding, and the worst is standing at attention for 2 and a half hours.  Sleep is very little for him since he is division leader...a good night is 5-6 hours and a bad (usual) one is 4 hours.  Says this is because he is division leader and is woken up at night..:(

He is counting down the days till graduation...37 and really looking forward to seeing everyone!

I hope others in his division also got to call home!  Sounds like there were!

I wish all of you ladies a call tonite!!

Oh Caryn, I am so sorry that you did not personally get to hear, but sounds like your husband did a pretty good job of getting some info for you. I haven't gotten my call, he's in div 083, and I am can barely stand it, but will just be praying all night until that dang phone rings. I call the house phone periodically from my cell phone just to make sure it's still working... what an idiot!  Thanks for the info and updates, all news helps me! Best wishes

GOT A CALL TODAY!!! After FOUR weeks, I would have been happy to hear him recite the alphabet, but it was great to hear how things were going. He's doing well. Didn't pass his Physical Fitness test but got a 4.6 out of 5 on some other test. He missed the running part by only 30 seconds. Said the hardest is getting up at 5:30 and going to bed at 10. It's probably been 10 years since he's been in bed at 10:00. He wasn't much of a sleeper, even as a newborn!! Said the RDCs are really great. No complaints. LOVES the uniforms they are being issued. Didn't sound like he was second guessing the decision to enlist at all!!

Our son could be the oldest at age 32. Just married and wanting to serve his country after working in many different venues. A very talented and wonderful son. I miss him and wish him well in his new calling.

Emptynestnow- Your son may be the youngest, but not by much! My son turned 18 the end of July. I know with all my heart that he is in the BEST place, he is safe, and doing something noble and worthy of pride. But he is still my baby (my oldest, and first to leave) and I miss him. As I tell him in my letters, when things get tough, remember that "This too shall pass". I'm trying to live by that too.!!

Thanks for the welcomes! It's so nice to be in this group. I too, live for letters and news! My son said that he is the youngest in this Div; he turned 18 last August. I like what Andria said about being brave enough to sign up- and committed enough, too!! Hang in there, Tchrmom- I don't cry so much now. I miss him, and the friends that were here because of him, but I am excited for him now. I just wish that I could hear more about what is happening there. He listed what he did: stood armed guard, fired a 9mm, marched 3 miles with 130lbs on his back, but didn't tell me anything more! That's frustrating for me.

Feeling very blue today. I'm sure it's partially due to only 4 hours of (lousy) sleep last night, but just had a downright lousy day. Trying to psych myself up to write my son an upbeat letter. I got my first/last letter last Wednesday, and just feel like I'm just thinking about Wednesday. I got a few letters at once, the last one dated 12/27. They started training on the 28th. For the most part, I am a very patient person. Waiting to find out how things are going for him is driving me CRAZY. I try to keep reminding myself that "no news is good news" ... but I just want to know how things are going!!
