@surfermom -  I felt like your son..."They say it's Thanksgiving, but...". It didn't feel the same without him here. I didn't even cook anything last year. He's coming home tonight and will be here through Sunday, which is the norm for him since he's only 45 minutes away.

What is power school?

Happy Thanksgiving, Moms. Hope everyone has a happy and joyous holiday. Just think, one year ago we were all pulling our hair out thinking about our sailors. Boy, time flies.

Leo bought his at a used car dealer.  He has only had it for about two months and he has had to bring it back 6 times for repairs.  The final straw was the transmission died the day after the warrenty expired and he was told sorry you have to pay full price for the repair.  He has also found out that this dealer changed its name because it was "black balled" by Navy Federal.  Neither he nor Navy Federal know about the name change until last week.

He started out with state farm and then ended up with direct general. He got more coverage for about $100 less per month than State Farm. Zach also got a great deal by buying it while at sea!

Did he get his insurance through USAA? They seemed to have the best rates for military. He called a couple of places and USAA was over half as cheap as the other places....and that was even with him adding extra stuff that he wasn't adding with Progressive and Geico.

He did his financing through Navy Federal and got a great interest rate on his car loan.

He got it from the ford dealer- it's a  little hatchback. I can't remember the name. So far he has been happy with it. No problems with it. He even shopped around and found cheaper insurance for it. He  took out a loan, but he is trying to keep his car and insurance to something modest so he can save some money and do some traveling. He has a newfound appreciation for mom, lol. He sent me his paperwork to review before he bought it. Overall I think he is making some good money choices.

Zachs Mom, I hope your son did not buy his car from the same dealer in Norfolk that my son bought his truck.  He is having so many problems that I told him to go to Navy Legal and see if they can help

My son is also in Norfolk, assigned to his ship. He got home in July and they had a fabulous homecoming for the ships. He went out for a short time  this month and is back in port. He also bought himself a new car. He is only 3 1/2 hours from home, so we have seen him several times since July. He certainly has grown up from this time last year, lol!

It's good to hear about everyone's son.  My is stationed in Norfolk which is about 5 hours from home.  He has come home a few times.  He is landlocked for 2 years because he still has to go to C school.  They don't know when and because of that they cannot assign him to a ship but he is keeping every busy on the base.

Hey Surfermon! It's good to hear from you. I'm glad your son is well.

Mine hasn't surfed yet. I don't think he'll have to for two years. He's actually working at Navy Medical in Bethesda. I'm enjoying having him close to home. He comes home every weekend. Now that he's bought himself a car, he even sneaks over during the week sometimes.

I do know that the kid who was homeless is stationed in Japan. He says he loves it!! I'm so happy for him.
