exactly about the backpacks. My daughter has a 17 inch laptop which is ginormous and it fit in the backpack along with a bunch of other stuff.

Dianne, the issued back packs are huge. No need for future parents to purchase to back packs for their recruits.

CarolP:  Some parents do attend A School grad, but at my son's, no one did and the one he observed before, no one did.  But he had a "short" A School...just a couple of months...maybe that makes a difference.  Families are welcome to attend though!

Your sailor will find out about making "leave" flight arrangements when he arrives at A School.  I'm assuming that he won't have started classes yet in Sept?  When they finish A School, the Navy will book their flights for them...but the Navy only pays for the portion from A School to duty station.  Sailor must pay the difference in the ticket because of home leave.  All of this is explained to them at A School.  I wasn't involved in my son's at all.

We circled too and ended up in some parking lot who knows where. My husband spilled coffee on our sons hat and already had to go back to the base and buy him another. Luckily hes back with a new one. Flight just got cancelled!!!!!!!

Thank you fireteamleaderwife. I'll check the site out. We are going to the airport to spend time with our son. He's only been calling since 5 am. I'm already getting upset at the thought of leaving him again...

Heading to the airport to spend some time with my son. He's heading to Mississippi. so glad I'm able to see him but I miss him already! I am so thankful for this site and so grateful for all the wonderful friends I've met on here.

Picked up my SA at the base this morning at 6 am. Spending the day at WalMart and Navy Pier. After she gets out of the shower of course!
