Fireteamleaderwife, you are right. The RDCs can take away letter writing and phone privileges. That happened to my son's division quite a lot. Every time they did not work as a team, no letter writing allowed. LoL
As Fireteamleaderwife suggested, start writing lots of letter now. This will help you and your SR get through boot camp. Letters really cheer them up.
The first 3 weeks of boot camp is kind of crazy so hang in there.
Kathy, If you have not received your "Form Letter" by next week you can always contact your daughter's recruiter. He can find out your her ship/division for you. I had to do that too.
Kathy, when my son was in boot camp I got my "I've arrived safely call." Then my son called me about week 4.
As far as letters go. It can take up to 3 or 4 weeks to get your first letter. This is because Recruits often change ships. The Yeoman have to get organized as far as who is in what ship/Div. I bet you will get 3 or 4 letters in the mail at once.
kathy- Did you get a call when she first arrived at Boot?
Have you received your form letter? This has your Recruits CORRECT address , along with your ship/div, PIR date, gate pass info (this is a SECRET code for you to be able to print your GAte PAss for PIR-NEVER publish this code) and other important info for PIR.
They don't get to start writing "real" letters until about the second Sunday of Boot Camp. After that, USUALLY every Sunday is "holiday" time for about 5-7 hours. This can get "eaten" up though if a recruit needs to catch up on stuff. If a DIV is doing well Tuesdays and Thursdays have been known to be added as letter writing days (these can also be taken away-in fact most everything can be taken away). They will start receiving your mail as soon as a MRPO (Mail Recruit Petty Officer) is trained up. The mail is federal and a test has to be passed before he/she can handle it. BUT start writing NOW and send as soon as you have the complete correct address. That way they are ready and waiting when the MRPO is!
Their first "real" call from Boot comes about 3 weeks in...give or take a week!LOL Things change in the military ALL the time as you will come to find out.
That fisrt call from Boot we like to call the "I'm here." call. The second one we like to call the, "I'm still alive." The MOST important one comes after Battlestations (Their final "test" so to speak), which is the ,"I'm a Sailor call."
In between , before, after all those are "earned" calls. These are random. If you get one of these be sure to ask your SR (Seaman Recruit) if the whole DIV is getting calls and please post. That way moms can have the cell glued to them. Occassionally, if the whole DIV IS getting calls some may not be able too as they are standing watch or have other duties. :-(
