So that's how you spell ASMOED!!  Thanx diannep. I just couldn't remember how it was spelled. No matter how I wrote it. It looked wrong. LoL

My son actually was asmoed and I already had flights.  Had I waited to book them, they would have been cheaper anyway.  I'm not sure why, but when I went to re-book, they were $61 cheaper than my first ones (same flights, different dates).  It is hard to tell you all to wait, but I would try and wait until they are in the 2nd/3rd week of training if possible.  Still had to pay the $150 change fee though...so it was like the ticket was $89 more.

jowee, yes it is safer to wait until the 4th week because of possible set backs that your recruit may have. Set backs can happen to anyone. My son was nearly ASMODE (given another PIR date due to failing PFA test and badly blistered feet)  My son said that 6 of his shipmates were ASMODE. They had their PIR 3 weeks after him. Sailors can also be set back due to injuries. If set backs happen for injuries or failed tests they tend to occur around week 4. This is because of the heavy duty training they do for the Second PFA.

You all bring whatever your sailor asks you to bring to PIR.  Because they can use it all in the hotel room, even if you might return home with some of it.  They usually can take most of it with them to A School though.

Yes, Kim, Ramada shuttle is free (PIR shuttles from other hotels is $3/pp each way...sailor returns with you for free usually). Only thing is...it doesn't leave until 7:30, I don't believe...but since this group only has 7 divisions, shouldn't be a real problem.  PIR drill hall opens at 7 (front gate opens at 6:30) so there will be a good amount of people in there already by 7:30.

When we stayed at Residence Inn, first shuttle left at 6:30.  Perfect for us.  We were seated at a few minutes after 7...and yes, there was a good amount of people there already....still had pretty much our choice of seats (except for back row and bottom row...already full in our division section).  We had 9 divisions in my son's group.

It is your trip..if you want to get the tickets now go ahead. If there are changes you may need to pay a small fee to change them, but to me having secured flights already planned is worth it to me.

I will be bringing my sons phone, and laptop so he can catch up with friends at the hotel. If he is grad and go then if i get to meet him at the airport, i should be able to hand off his phone and laptop to him. It will prob be different for each sailor. Ask your sailor to find out the details the closer to PIR you get.

I too checked out the Ramada Inn Waukegan - somewhere I believe it said the meet and greet was in the early evening.  They also have free transport to the graduation. I believe this is where we will stay.  Haven't made the reservations yet, I want to wait until it gets a little closer just to be on the safe side. It will be ince to meet other families.
