leah:  You may want to wait just a little while if you are making flight arrangements.  Hotel and car are fine. but flights can be a little iffy.  I should know...my son was "asmoed" (setback) while there in his 3rd week of training (4 weeks after he arrived).  Yep, we had our flights so had to pay the change fee....saving grace was that the new-date flights were a bit cheaper so it was like $150 change fee was $89.  I waited a couple of more weeks before making new arrangements!

Profile picture is from last week's PIR....which was the Centennial celebration for the GL Naval Station, so it was held outside.  The "stripes" on their sleeves represent their rate (would be "rank" in officers terms).  No stripes is an E-1, 2 stripes is an E-2, 3 stripes is an E-3.  They can be promoted during bootcamp but not higher than an E-3.

Welcome to the new members!  PIR starts at 9 and is over around 10:30.  But you all will need to be there between 7 and 7:15 if you want to have a good choice of seating!

We stayed at Residence Inn Waukegan.  A great place for those with larger groups too as they offer 2 bdrm 2 bth units (but they go quickly so book early).  We used our AAA discount rather than Navy discount.  They have the PIR shuttle, are pet friendly, and have free hot buffet breakfast.  They also have studio units.  Very nice hotel....Marriott.
