Ladies-FTLW here. My Sailor PIR'd on 05/26/2011, so I am a fairly new veteran.

He is currently going through "A" school.

I'll be posting some info I have put together...mostly in the discussion forum. It's easier to keep track of it for me up there since there are seven PIR groups right now. LOL!

Some of it will be the standard and VERY complete posts of JessicaB who is a veteran and will hopefully be retuning to this site soon.

Betsy, Sandy and a few others pop in too!

Welcome!

That's wonderful... we had a ship out party too. The kids all agreed to just stay in touch on FB when the can.

Agreed!  I sent my son with 2 calling card and 2 books of stamps.  No envelopes etc.  I've read that they have to use their stationary and envelopes.  I did send him with a wallet address book too.  I filled in all phone # and addresses.  We had a going away party and I had each person fill in their own info.

yes... I plan to send one thanks for the info!! I'm wondering if he needs paper, stamps and all that too??  It stinks that he has a cell (not now of coarse)and we are locked into a contract and he still needs a phone card. I understand they don't want to be responsible for their phones. It would be nice to keep them in a box and let the kiddos use it when allowed.

You can send him one.  I was told to get an AT&T they are $22.00 for 550 minutes.  You still have time they are supposed to call until week 3, I think.

They can't call without a calling card. I was not given this info until recently... so I guess my son won't be calling me.

By the way, I love this website!  It brings me peace each day knowing I'm not crazy like I feel.  So many other mom's are going through the same things I am.

Cheryl6 - my son not only called me at work but he called his dad on his cell phone and his brother on his cell phone.  He will get ahold of you but keep your cell phone by your side 24/7.  I had no idea my son was going to call me when he did.  He was filling out paperwork and earned a phone call. They know our schedules because they haven't been gone long enough for that to change much.

My daughter is set to graduate on this date. She is in Div 940. I got her form letter but haven't gotten anything else yet. Getting pretty antsy about everything. I am so afraid I'll miss her first phone call even though I carry my cell phone everywhere. Thanks for the help everyone! This site really helps!
