Lukesmom, is there a way you can add a chat box to this group so we can chat intermittently?

I'm more worried about what the weather will hold for us. You never know about Chicago:)

We're in Carlinville, IL...about 3 1/2 hrs south of Chicago (50mi NE of St Louis). So we will be driving up to Great Lakes. Makes it easier to change plans...if we have to.

Yeah, you're probably right. Maybe our boys will appreciate their upbringing a little more after their bootcamp experience, huh? LOL Where are you from, Dodie?

I would imagine that all of the divisions probably do more IT during the first few weeks until they learn the Navy routine & come together as a team...lol.

Dodie - thanks for the info. Wow. I had no idea. Hopefully this will actually be a positive thing. . .I hope? I know my son likes challenges and thrives off of physical endurance tests, so hopefully he will enjoy this challenge. Hopefully? Ugh. Trying to look at this from a positive angle. :)

Dodie - you received a letter that Matt wrote on 10/24? Then there is hope for more letters soon!!! :) I'm sorry to hear about his knee, but they say it is common for knee injuries during bootcamp so I'm sure he is getting the best care possible. And WONDERFUL that he passed his swim qualification test - great!!!! And what a relieve that he sounded upbeat; it shows a lot of character! Be proud, mom!!!!

Billie, IT is what the division has to do when they mess up...Usually the whole division has to IT even if it's only 1 recruit in the division. Teaches them to work as a "team". They are a push division because their division didn't fill until the week of 10/11 so they have to complete their processing and boot camp training in 7 1/2 weeks instead of 9 wks in addition to their 900 division training. They're going to be pretty busy, so don't worry if you don't receive a llot of lengthy letter from them...they will probably have less time to write.

Lydia - I SO HOPE you hear from Luke today. If his letter does seem down, then don't worry and keep in mind that if he wrote it on Oct. 17, then he had only been in "real" training for a week. I think we can all expect this first letter to be kind of down, then our second letter will be maybe a little down but with more hope, then our third letter will be a bit more upbeat. . .I hope!!! Also, about the mailman. . .they are doing road construction right in front of our house. Tore the whole road up. Last Tuesday I came home eager to check the mailbox and it had been moved to our neighbor's yard. Quick panic until I saw that it had been moved. Last Wednesday I came home even more eager to check the mailbox and it had disappeared!!! They tore up the ditch and dug up all of our mailboxes!!! I was in a frenzied panic, and of course it was late in teh evening so it was too late to storm the doors of the post office. By Thursday, however, they put in a new mailbox and all has been well since then. You DON'T mess with a Navy mom while her loved one is in bootcamp!!!!!!! LOL

My son sounded pretty upbeat in his letter but he's worried about when he will graduate. He hurt his knee about 6 days ago (letter written 10/24) during PT & is LLD (limited light duty). He was starting physical therapy this week. He is still w/the division & passed his swim qual test so hopefully if the knee comes around this week, he should be able to start back w/PT & marching.
