Hi All,

Just findining another group. This one looks pretty good. Do a fair amount of walking, kickboxing, and weight training. There are days when neither the mind nor the body is willing. I know, I know.... Take the body the mind will follow. My son goes to Annapolis July 1st, and the thought of having my picture taken with the extra pounds is gut wrenching. Need lots of help and support, and I have been blessed with all my other groups too!

Walked the mountain today with a friend 2.5 miles 1 mile @ 22% grade.... Sure I will psych myself out by tomorrow. UGH!

Oh, Tami, I don't know where to start thanking you! You have some wonderful ideas and very HEALTHY ideas. When my son arrived on his ship he decided it was time to take his health a little more seriously.
So far he's cut out fat and sugar. He loves salmon, chicken and vegetables and I think is probably eating okay on the ship. His downfall is sunflower seeds. But I think he could have a worse food habit than seeds. I worry about the salt. He also loves organic popcorn (he prefers it made in a pot...); SlimJims (full of chemicals and preservatives??? He says everyone on the ship gets nuts so he's had his fill of them! I wish he'd try some fresh almonds....

Are you using the "military kits" that USPS provides to us for free? The kit includes boxes, labels, customs form and the label that you put the custom form in along with a huge roll of tape. All these boxes are flat rate, which means you can load them up with cans and then tape the heck out of it.

Jackie:
I'm laying in bed with flu and haven't eaten for two days. So I jumped up this morning and weighed in. Down another 2 lbs. Yeah for the flu!

Now the truth. I almost had to go to the hospital last night because I have asthma and the flu can be dangerous for me. But the anitbiotics kicked in right away and hopefully I'll be back down to the club working out by the end of the week!!

Thanks for all your support! It means so much.

Welcome to NavyforMoms Tami!
What a wonderful asset you will be to our group! Wow! I'm just overwhelmed.
My son is serving on the USS Ramage in the Gulf and is requesting healthy snack and food items. Please share what you sending your son. I'd love to have some fresh ideas!
Welcome again and it's great to have you here.

I woke up one day (it was the day after Matt left) and decided food was no longer my best friend. I cut out most fat and all sugar. Instead of a dinner plate, I use a saucer for portion control. I use my smallest dessert bowls for cereal.
Don't get me wrong, it was hard at the beginning. When I see my 290 lb. hubby eating a whole bag of chips, I remind myself of how much fat he's eating and then I go dig up something healthy. The secret is planning. You have to have good food on hand ALL the time. No letting yourself starve. Here in Tucson, the dietician at my hospital offers her services for free. We have exchanged email addresses and if I need to know something about preparing a dish, she's right there.
We just returned from San Diego and I ate out for 5 days in a row. I would order a salad or soup and then taste everyone else's food. Worked out well for me.

When Matt left for Boot Camp last February, I weighed in at 252. I'm down to 197. The support in here is crazy!

Ok all Navy Moms this will be my will be my 5th year participating in the 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk and there is a group here call 2009 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk. We have two teams right now, 1 is in Seattle (Team Captain Joyce) and I have the team for the DFW area. I am looking for all Navy Moms, Dads, Sisters, Brothers, Aunts, Uncles and all others to join me in Dallas-Ft. Worth in Nov 2009. The registration is $90 per person. This is the first time in my longggggg life I've not gained during the holidays. I started a diet last August and luckily, it's become a habit now. Over the holidays instead of taking a regular size dinner plate, I used a large saucer. That really helps in portion control. After Christmas hubby and my brother and SIL all went to San Diego. Of course we ate out for all our meals. I would order soup or salad and taste everyone's else's food. Worked out great!
