Needed to learn more about it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
I'm still trying to learn how to 'back off'!

What a Difference a Year Can Make . . .

Inspired by my son and the physical training he was going through (and TOTALLY disgusted with my own LACK of discipline and physical conditioning!) last May I started on the path to better health . . .

Starting with 'public' accountability, and a WHOLE lot of support in the form of the "Ship Shape Up" group, I changed the way I look at my life, throwing out the idea of 'diet' and recognizing it as a lifestyle change - instead of using food as a comfort tool and boredom buster, I focused on more… Continue

A 'Picture' Perfect Leave . . .

After the 'scare' of a cancelled flight because of the winter storms in Chicago, almost two hours on the phone with the airlines, and the blessing of a friend and fellow sailor who left O'Hare to drive back to Great Lakes to get him back to O'Hare for an earlier flight, we were LUCKY enough to have Bryan home for over 2 weeks:)!

On the day he arrived I had to work, but his dad hung the welcome home banner before picking him up at the airport . . .

Morning Raspberry: Got the shopping done for the dishes yesterday afternoon and then went to Glendale Glitters last night with a friend from work. Taking it easy today and then back to work in the morning. I had my weekends mixed up.....I'll be coming into Tucson over the New Years weekend......are you off any of those days? I know you probably don't have that schedule yet....but let me know.

WOW Joyce.....looks like your living room blew up! I know you're excited to have that kid home, it's gonna be a wonder-filled Christmas! I pulled a 12 hour shift today....I'm just WAY too old for this! Got all the Christmas shopping done! Keith and Patricia want new dishes, so I'm taking them shopping tomorrow. Brett and Jamie want tickets to a play, plus a babysitter for the night they go.....I can order the tickets on the computer. I finished off the grandkids in the K-Mart toy department a few days ago.....House is decorated, shopping is done, family party is over....I'm feeling pretty relaxed!

Hey You! It is so cold here right now....I'm in long johns and a heavy bathrobe. I refuse to turn the heat higher than 67* until after 9 PM!! Got a call from Cory about 2:30 this afternoon. He said he got orders this morning and will be "deploying" tomorrow for another 45 day adventure with the Navy! He said " Mom, don't be upset that I can't talk to you on Christmas, I'll call as soon as I get back to the states!" I had to tell him that the telephone call was the least of my worries. I had just mailed out his Christmas package this morning and it had cookies in it that would rot before he got back!!

How's work going? We're slowing down a lot with the holidays coming up. Not a whole lot of elective surgeries going on. I actually got out on time today. Drop a line when you get a chance.

Hey: Just dropping in to say have a wonder-filled week. Cory turned 21 (about an hour ago, Virginia time!) I called, 10 PM our time-- midnight there, and sang "Happy Birthday" to him......he didn't seem impressed. Go figure!!! A couple of friends are taking him out tomorrow...probably to buy his first legal drink at a bar!!! Drop a line when you get a chance.

Hi: Just wondering what you're up to. I just got in from Target....picked up a few things to send in Cory's Christmas stocking. The computer was his birthday and Christmas gift, so he'll have a full package....but it will be all little stuff. I'm trying to get things ready for the family Christmas party on the 12th. Since we have people in Tucson, Flagstaff and me in the middle, it's always at my house. Usually around 20 people.....grew tremendously when our kids started having kids!! I now have 5 grandchildren!!! I'll get the tree up this weekend, and hopefully get the lights up outside, too. Everyone pitches in with the food.....we all have our assigned items...so that's pretty easy. I'm just having a little trouble getting started this year. Keep in touch...."hi" to the family.

Hey there girlfriend: HAPPY THANKSGIVING! Got a call from Cory. He and a few friends have picked up turkey "Hot Pockets" and some canned sweet potatoes. Their Thanksgiving meal will be in front of the TV watching football. It sounds like a perfect day to me!

Hi to Eric and Bruce. Any word on what's going to happen with Bryan?

Hey Raspberry! Just pulled what salsa I have left out of the freezer.....yes, I hid it when Cory came home...it's dinner tonight with a baked potato and sour cream!!! Do I know how to plan a meal or what?!?!? Haven't heard a word from you in a while, just checking in to say "Hi". I'll be having dinner with Brett (2nd son) and his family tomorrow....then it's back to work on Friday. Nothing exciting going on. Let me know how you're doing.
