What a Difference a Year Can Make . . .

Inspired by my son and the physical training he was going through (and TOTALLY disgusted with my own LACK of discipline and physical conditioning!) last May I started on the path to better health . . .

Starting with 'public' accountability, and a WHOLE lot of support in the form of the "Ship Shape Up" group, I changed the way I look at my life, throwing out the idea of 'diet' and recognizing it as a lifestyle change - instead of using food as a comfort tool and boredom buster, I focused on more… Continue

A 'Picture' Perfect Leave . . .

After the 'scare' of a cancelled flight because of the winter storms in Chicago, almost two hours on the phone with the airlines, and the blessing of a friend and fellow sailor who left O'Hare to drive back to Great Lakes to get him back to O'Hare for an earlier flight, we were LUCKY enough to have Bryan home for over 2 weeks:)!

On the day he arrived I had to work, but his dad hung the welcome home banner before picking him up at the airport . . .

Hiya Joyce! Just wanted to say thanks for the salsa care package you sent with Julie and I. OMG, I'm completely hiding it from my family!...no really, I've been hiding it so they don't find it. That's just bad, but it is soooo yummy! Thanks again for everything, hope you are having an awesome week....my 'puter at home...well, let's just say it's going to be a little while before I have it back up and operational. HUGE BUMMER!

Hey girlfriend......things worked out well. I'm so glad Staci and I got to stop by after the potluck! Sounds like the job is going to be keeping you really busy until after the holidays....you have a lot going on! Staci and I got into Phoenix without a hitch....got in a visited with Cory and GF for about an hour and then they took off for Tucson!!! He's got some friends there he wants to see!!! Glad I took a couple days off work this week or I wouldn't get to spend ANY time with him!!!

Celebrating Cory's birthday tonight.....can't wait for hime to open that computer!!!

Hey Raspberry!!! Cory comes home tomorrow. I think his plane lands about 8:30 PM. GF is picking him up (of course!), then they're stopping to see friends....THEN he'll come home. I took Thursday and Friday off next week.....his birthday is Dec. 7th but we'll be celebrating a little early.

Can't wait to see you Saturday.....we have some catching up to do!

Okay...see you there! I just left a line for Joan, have you heard from her lately? I'm pretty sure Cory will be busy with friends his first weekend here, he probably won't even notice I'm not around! :)

Hi, Joyce!!! How are you doing? How is your sailor son? and your teacher son?
I'm dropping in once in a while, still studying for my last exam to get my license, and working full time, plus the internship.
Can you believe it has been over one year since our nice cruise on the Bay?
We are still slowwwwly remodeling the downstairs, and planning to retire in four years (hopefully).
Nathan has ben traveling on the GW, and they are scheduled to arrive back in Japan soon. He is now saying that he may stay on, if he can be granted a shore duty in Italy or Portugal, because the only thing he DEFINITELY likes about traveling on that ship is when they arrive in new cities around the world.
We don't know if he is coming home for Christmas. We haven't seen him since August 2008.
Like you say, Giant HUGS!!!!

Call came in from Cory at work today.....he'll be home Nov. 13th.....yep, that's next Friday. He said he didn't think he could get back for Christmas so he took what he could get. Actually, I think the truth is, he just wants to see the GF. They broke up several months ago....like Feb...but have been talking again for the past couple of weeks. I'm NOT the highlight of this trip home!!!

I plan to be in Tucson next Saturday......I was thinking that Staci and I could pick you up on our way in and then drop you off on our way back out. Would that workfor you?

We'll see you on the 14th however we have to work it out!!

Got a text from Cory....he's in the hospital. His fever hit 105 and someone decided he needed to go to ER because tylenol wasn't bringing it down. Good move on that "someones" past! I'm not worried...it's what's going around....He's still well enough to breath and text!!!

Be sure to tell Bryan to stay away from sick people...wash his hand every chance he gets and to not shake hands with anyone!!!

Ya know Raspberry.....that's the FIRST thing Cory bought when he got a credit card! The damn thing is still in a case under his bed here in Phoenix.....he's probably still paying it off!!!

Got a text from him this morning...he has a temp. of 103! Guess the flu has hit Little Creek.

He's disappointed in being released from the GM position with the Seals. But, let's face it.....it was going to be temporary....after all, he's NOT a Seal! Just hard to step down from a position like that into ordinary Navy life. He'll adjust! He's still talking about EOD, but since he's just rated into GM this year it will be a while before he can apply for it.

Staci and I are talking about coming to Tucson on the 14th for the DEP picnic....are you going to be there?

Hey Raspberry: Just got a call from Cory. Seems the Seal unit he was assigned to now has it's very own "Real Seal" who will act as gunners-mate, so he has been released from the team. Doesn't know where he will go from here. It was a great temporary job for him....but like all "to good to be true" things in life, it has come to an end. I'll keep you posted as I get more info.

Happy Halloween!!!!

Hey there: Congrats on the pay raise....that's ALWAYS nice! Sounds like you're gonna be pretty busy through the whole holiday season!! DO NOT DO HOUSEWORK....you need to rest!!!! Talked to Cory a little while ago. He's fairly certain he'll be able to make it home for Christmas.

Work has been a pain. Lots of staff out with flu symptoms. Once they start we make them take 7 days off, so we've had lots of shifts working short....nothing like an overworked nurse in a bad mood, boy they can be nasty to deal with!!!

Nothing new in my neck of the woods. Stopped in and saw Cory's recruiter (Alan) for a few minutes yesterday. I was hitting the recruiting offices of all branches collecting service pins. We're giving them out to our patients who are vets on Nov. 11th. Not a bad deal...we look good for remembering....and I get the pins for free!!! I like how that works. Stay in touch and let me know when you have any news from Bryan. Say hello to Eric and Bruce for me.
