Thank you so much for the advice!! I am excited to tell him about the email and he will have alot more information for his next voyage which make it less stressful for him hopefully.
We are from the East coast and he is not missing the weather one bit!!

Karen---have your son contact one of the IT guys on the ship and set him up an email account on the ship. He then can email you from his ship if it's up and running. Sometimes they don't turn it on if it's a short trip. Sad thing is, there is no cell towers out at sea!! But when he gets to a port he can call. My son is also in SD and loves it there, hope your son does too. Good luck to him and welcome to the group.

Hi everyone! I just found this snipe group and thought I'd join. My son just traveled to his ship this past weekend and will be sailing with it back to San Diego. He had a lot of nerves for this first trip! Any advice on communication while they are on the ship or is it back to the no news is good news?

Pammie- they are named after an Engineer Officer, John Snipe, who stuck up for his men. You can look it up and read the story, it's fasicinating. Welcome to the group!!

Hi all! My son is a MM & is in BESS school in Groton, CT. My husband was also a GSM when he was in the Navy & was also a snipe. Can anyone tell me what the term snipe means & why they are called that.

Hello everyone, I see no one has been posting for awhile. What a shame. I thought I'd give an update; my son is doing very well out in SD and loves it. He's working long days getting the ship ready for a short deployment. He told me last night that the CO wants to send him to two more c-schools, I think the man is impressed with him. One will be back at GL and the other in SD.
Marianne--there is only 204 men on the ship and 16 of those are officers, so pretty small but he will move up faster.

How big is the Rentz? I'm not even sure what kind of ship it is. Katie is on the USS Essex and there are 1,200 sailors on the ship and only 45 moms in the group and less than 10 that post pretty regularly. Wish more would comment. Hopefully you find some Moms.

Marianne- not yet!! They must not be on N4Ms. The group is there to join, not for lack of me trying to find others! Maybe one day. My sister joined! LOL :)

Rhonda - were you successful yet at finding any other Moms with sailors on the USS Rentz?
