Jheart99 - Welcome! Yes, your husband will be a snipe - EN (Engineman) is one of those rates. My daughter Katie is a DC. After BC she was in GL for training and then sent to Japan for 3+ years. Now she is back in the states and stationed in Norfolk. Looks like from your pic that you and your husband have children, and a little cutie at that!
Hello everyone. I'm new here. My hubby just shipped out to bootcamp and then he'll stay on at GL for A School. His rate is EN, so that makes him a Snipe, right? I'm just here to learn everything I can and hopefully make some friends in the process.
Deborah GC - My daughter joined the navy 10-08-08. She was offered Corpsman, but she would have had to wait until sometime in 2009 for that rate, so she asked what other rates were avaiable for her and she chose DC. After A school she was sent to Japan for 3 years and served on the USS Essex (LHD 2) until the hull swap in April 2012 with the USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6). Now she has re-enlisted for 4 years and is serving on the USS George HW Bush (CVN 77). Will your daughter be a DC?
@ MarianneKT's Mom your daughter is obviously a Snipe?! Our daughter graduates this week from Boot Camp and will be continuing on at Great Lakes for A school. I have looked at this group before, not much activity, so was GLAD to see someone else here. How long has your daughter been in the Navy? Was this the rate they offered her? And how does she like it? Look forward to hearing from you!!
I would be suprised if the MWR doesn't plan some things for them to do. We went to the aquarium while we were there, but didnt get to the zoo. Walked up town did some shopping, ate at Sushi-go-Round and Stix (sp?), went to visit some of Katie's shipmates that lived off=base. I know that Katie has gone camping and also to the beach.
I wonder how long the process will be once they arrive in port to switch everything over.
The Navy Reservist was referring to the base in Yokosuka - the one closer to Tokyo. The Essex home port is Sasebo - the southern tip of Japan on the Korean Peninsula!
Katie will be assigned to another ship being a DC. Which is fine with her, she loves to be underway!
HisMom - is your son in Japan?
Ask your daughter if she has any recommendations for time off the ship in Japan if he gets the chance.
