Haven't been on in awhile...lots going on with the wedding, which was beautiful. Here is a picture of me with my oldest son just before it started.
My sailor is enjoying Okinawa and doing a lot of snorkeling. Turns out a good friend from high school married a Marine who is being stationed at Okinawa also; it will be good for him to have a friend from home there.
School starts for my 12 year old this week...looks to be a busy week. Hubby still hasn't found a job, but he's looking hard. Ready to branch the search out to Columbia and Charlotte.
annm...thanks. He at least qualifies for unemployment while he looks. We'll be okay; just not a lot of extras (like the iphone which I really miss) for the time being.
Have been able to message my son back and forth on facebook since he arrived in Okinawa. He is stationed with a marine batillion at Camp Hanson and is really happy. He's been homesick since he left but he's fine there. I think it's because he's finally doing what he has been training to do. It's good to be able to communicate with him.
My oldest son gets married this weekend. My daughter who lives in Oklahoma will be home tomorrow, so it will be a busy week!
Starchild, I hope you are able to reach your son.
Annm, we unfortunately do not have any plans. There are three of us and my husband just recently became unemployed. (The day after he graduated from college, no less.) Maybe he'll get an amazing job and we can consider it later since he'll be there for three years.
Today is my sailor's birthday and I can't tell him how much I love and miss him. Feeling something-sadness, pride-don't know what. Well I text him and sent a message on FB. Hope he sees it before the day is over:(
Also one of our own, Robyn Torres a Navy Mom, passed away Thursday afternoon from brain and lung cancer. Her sailor has been in for 2 years. He was by her side.
Happy 4th to my sisters!!
Welcome nicholle421-you are among a GREAT group of moms. I can remember when my son was in bootcamp, 2 yrs in Oct. I was ready to go to GL to find out what he was doing! HA! You just boarded the most exciting roller coaster ride of your life. And it doesn't stop after PIR but that event is something you will never forget.
annm...I know what you mean about the empty nest. I am blessed that I had my bonus baby since I would have one now if it wasn't for him. God sure knew that I'd need him now! He's in 7th grade so I will still have one at home for awhile. My others are spread all over now; oldest gets married in 3 weeks, daughter in Oklahoma, and Jon heads to Okinawa TODAY. They bumped his orders up by a few days and wouldn't allow him leave to come home before heading overseas. He's excited, though, about being there.
Nicholle, PurpleGiraffe, and Lisa...welcome! It's a great group. I haven't been on in awhile...my son graduates from FMTB school next week and will head to Okinawa on the 5th of July. Not very excited about it myself, but he is, and that's what counts. I'm from the upstate, but my daughter just graduated from Winthrop in May, so we are familiar with that area.
GTG to Zumba...hope everyone has a great day!
BTW, annm, congrats being principal! That's what my daughter wants to be!
Hi all my fellow SC Navy moms! Greetings from the upstate :) We have just started our journey as we got "the call" this morning around 12:30 am. I am so proud of our SR and am counting the days til we hear his voice and get to go to GL for PR! (Trying to get comfy with the acronyms here y'all). Anyway, looking forward to getting to chat more and know you guys better! God bless...
As I was cleaning my sailor's room (yes it took me 2 years to get up the nerve) I came across a poem I read at his Senior/Mom dinner in 2006. Some of you may have read this one but I wanted to post. I get teary-eyed each time I read it. Here it is:
You were six months old and full of fun. With a blink of my eye, you were suddenly one.
There were so many things we were going to do, but I turned my head and you turned two.
At two you were very dependent on me but independence took over when you turned three.
Your third birthday, another year I tried to ignore but when I lit the candles-there were't three but four.
Four was the year that you really strived. Why, look at you now, you're already five.
Now, you are ready for books and for rules. This is the year that you go to school.
The big day came, you were anxious to go. We walked to the bus going oh so slow.
As you climbed aboard and waved goodbye, I felt a lump in my throat and tears stung my eyes.
Time goes so fast, it's hard to believe that just yesterday you were home here with me.
And tomorrow when the bus brings you home and you jump to the ground, you'll be wearing your cap and graduation gown.
So I'm holding to these moments as hard as I can because the next time I look I'll be seeing a man.-Author Unknown
