I wasn't able to go myself but a lot of people I know did...there was a huge show of support for the family.
Our prayers are with this family and I wish I could be there to show support.
Anyone in South Carolina up for protesting Westboro Baptist Church's ridiculous picket at a fallen upstate soldier's funeral tomorrow?
"Meet at the Wal-Mart in Simpsonville, SC (3950 Grandview Dr Simpsonville, SC 29681) at 11:15 to meet up with the radio station 93.3 to help preserve respect and protect the family of PFC Justin Whitmire during the funeral tomorrow."

Happy New Year!! Love My SC Navy Sisters!
Happy New Year Sisters. I hope all had a wonderful holiday season. Louis is here now and we had a wonderful Christmas Dec. 27th when he arrived home. When he leaves next week, he won't be back on land until May. Looks like I will be taking a road trip in May. He talked to me about his 'girlfriend'. For years he has told me that they are 'just friends'. Now they are talking about getting married and having children. He wants to give it 2 years before he marries but he is looking for a place in Norfolk so I CAN COME AND HELP TAKE CARE OF THE BABY!!!!! He does not want to leave me in Columbia. PLEASE LEAVE ME!
Susan so glad to hear from you. Take care.
Thanks everyone! He is going to start going to study groups next week, but he has been studying non stop since he started. He says that some of the ones that actually go out and get drunk on weekends (they are of age) are doing better and they are studying much less. He doesn't go out at all. Maybe he's studying too much! He knows the material and is active in class.
It was really hard to let him go this time, but I'm okay now. His roommate will not be back until Sunday, so he's alone there.
jacketfan24- There are study groups to help them out and I think that they do go in order from the highest grades and they get to choose first what they would like to do from what is on the list. The navy has a list of what is needed and they get to choose from that. Tell your son to hang in there. I'm sure he will do fine. My thoughts are with you today while you send your son back.
He's probably referring to FMTB with the Marines. On the grades, they should be also offering study groups which also consists of tutoring. If I remember right, my son found the beginning harder so hopefully he will see his grades improve. I'll ask my son tonight but I don't think his grades will effect FMTB. More so they would if he was looking to go to C school or other base of choice.
Hello everyone! My son has been home for the last two weeks and it has been wonderful; he leaves in the morning to go back to San Antonio. I have to drive him to Charlotte since it was cheaper to fly from there than Greenville/Spartanburg; the flight is at 7am.
Monica and Susan...I have a question about corpsman school. My son is not getting the grades he wants and his are actually better than most of the sailors in his unit. He is studying like crazy and knows the material, but is just not doing well on the tests. He is passing them, but he REALLY wants the marine school next (I forget what the initials are). He says the other instructor of the other unit tells them what to study for the tests, so they are all scoring really high. His instructor doesn't do that, so he is studying everything. Is this normal or is he doing something wrong? He's only had two tests; they started classes two weeks before they shut down for Christmas. He is getting frustrated at the test scores not reflecting what he's learned.
Hope everyone had a great Christmas and will have a wonderful New Year. Susan, it is great to see you back and I hope you continue to recover.
Susan/Corpsman Mom- I'm a Corpsman mom also. Do you live in Columbia? If so we don't live to far apart. I live in Jefferson(near Pageland). Hope you get better soon!
