My Base Guide

Space A Travel Eligibility
Ok, this is a very important link and I hope it stays valid if I forget to update it. Just so everybody knows, legal dependents are now allowed to travel Space A while their military sponsor is on deployment orders. If you don't know what this is it is very simple. You can fly at little cost almost anywhere in the world on a government aircraft. You sign up on a list and wait for your number to be called. So, if your sailor is deployed to say, Japan, you can jump on a Space A flight to Japan for say 30 dollars. I don't know the exact amount, but it is cheap. Take a look at this, Google Space A travel, you will get all the answers you need. If you have more questions, ask.

Hi! I'll be moving to Pensacola within the month. My husband is going to A school and I've heard he has to live on base for the first 4 to 5 weeks of school but then can move off - can anyone confirm this and/or let me know the process? He was originally going EOD but switched and I moved to FWB from NYC in Feb and now we get to move again. Really excited to get to P-cola but not as excited to not be living with him and just want to know how long that's for - thanks for any advice!

I vote good idea if you can afford the rent. If he is going to help you pay rent that would be even better. I assume that the Navy knows he has a dependent so he should be getting BAH (Basic Allowance for Housing). This is to help offset any cost for rent. Don't quote me on this because I don't know for sure if he gets it, but he should.
Here is the link for the information on it.
BAH info
If you put his info in the calculator you will see how much he should be getting.

Now look through here for others opinions on going to stay where A school is. I don't see a problem with it. He can see your son almost every night as long as he gets his work done and doesn't have any problems.

If you want a cheap small place I am renting from a guy that has a few places that are month to month. This is perfect since you don't have to sign a lease and it is close to the base. I am less than 5 minutes from the gate. On top of that it is close to WalMart and Target! I have a 2 bedroom for 500 a month. He is finishing up a one bedroom across the street but I don't know the rent. If you want his telephone number let me pm me and I will give it to you.

I personally think it is doable since they have so much free time at night before classing up. When he classes up he may not have as much free time but you will still have the weekends and most nights you could at least eat dinner together.

One other thing. The Navy will not help with your move.

So I am looking for some advice. My boyfriend is at boot camp right now, his
PIR is 4/30/2010 & he wrote me a few letters. He wants to get me an apartment in Pensacola while he is at school there so he can visit me and our 5mth son when he has liberty and at least see us more than a few visits every few months, since we live in MI...Is this a good idea or bad idea?

No need for confusion. Sit back and start waiting. My wife's orders say she is supposed to start school on the 13th of March. No dice there. She has heard that the wait for her rate can be 6 months long!

stevens girl, yeah my wife has a lazy roommate also and it is making her mad. She gets back to her room to find undergarments thrown about the floor! She passed her first room inspection with her though so that is good.

This is according to my wife, she is sitting right next to me telling what she did.

He will check in. Go through INDOC, indoctrination. He cannot leave base until he is done with INDOC. I assume he is on Corry Station since he is a CTM. Do you know what base he is on? He will have a PFM class, Personal Finance Management class which is 2 days. After he is done with all that he should be allowed off base.

I went down the same week my wife got to P-cola and hung out with her after 4.30 pm until night Muster at around 9 pm. She got there on a Wed. and I was there Thurs or Friday, I believe. They are allowed to go off base, now this is NAS info as far as going off base, it could be different on Corry Station. On Sat and Sun I pick her up at 7 am and we hang out all day until 9 pm or so then it is Muster time.
