Various links to military stuff.

Here is a link that you will need to check out. It is a FAQ about PCS moves and what $$'s are available.

My Base Guide

Space A Travel Eligibility
Ok, this is a very important link and I hope it stays valid if I forget to update it. Just so everybody knows, legal dependents are now allowed to travel Space A while their military sponsor is on deployment orders. If you don't know what this is it is very simple. You can fly at little cost almost anywhere in the world on a government aircraft. You sign up on a list and wait for your number to be called. So, if your sailor is deployed to say, Japan, you can jump on a Space A flight to Japan for say 30 dollars. I don't know the exact amount, but it is cheap. Take a look at this, Google Space A travel, you will get all the answers you need. If you have more questions, ask.

You will get a letter from where he is at that will have all the graduation information on it and they get to write a tiny note at the bottom. Don't be too upset if it takes a little bit for you to get a letter back after you write to them. My husband said sometimes the mail would be sooo backed up that he would only get my letters on 1 day a week and I wrote him everyday. So he got like 5 letters on one day. When you husband mentions towards the end that he will be doing battlestation keep your phone attached to your side! After they are done they get to call home and talk to  you for like a half hour. It is their  "I'm a sailor" call. It's really exciting!!!  Just keep yourself busy. It really does suck not having communciation with them but it makes your relationship even stronger after they get out. My husband had to leave for bootcamp when our son was only 2 months old so it was really hard on the both of us. But it's really worth it. They learn so many skills in bootcamp and it really makes them appreciate everything in life even more.

well great! I know we've been planning on doing this for a while, I will definitely stay on top of him to get it all done! And you're right, I CAN'T WAIT for him to graduate! The lack of communication is killing me! I haven't gotten a letter yet, once that starts flowing a little better I hope time starts to pass quickly! I keep shaving down my countdown..like today i have 37 days, so i'm like...well a week from tomorrow it will be in the 20's...and really about 10 days before I leave I'll be so excited it won't matter..sooooo that only leave 10 more hard days. Haha, I know it won't be exactly like that though:) I can't wait to be in FL!

Yah it will be a lot easier than you think. As soon as he gets phased up it will be perfect for you two to get married. He will find out all about it when he gets here. I'm not exactly sure who he has to talk to inorder to add you to his dependents but tell hiim to ask around. All the other sailors are pretty helpful. And of course anytime. I'm only 20 and married with a baby and people tend to judge me sometimes off of it. So I try my hardest not to criticize anyone. Plus its so hard coming here and not knowing anything. And that is really good you only live a few hours away. They won't pay for you to move. They will only pay for it when your fiance gets brown baggers which can take a while. I had to pay to move from California to here and it was horrible. Oh man I bet you can't wait until he graduates! It's such an amazing experience and it's sooo nice to be able to see them again =).

Thanks so much!! You are one of the few here who actually HELP and not criticize :) thanks for that info!! I actually thought it would take longer, so they sounds great!! This will be a lot easier to plan I guess once he gets there and we can communicate again!!

Vaughne,

A wedding on the beach sounds soo cute and nice! I would have loved doing a beach wedding back in California but where we lived it was always cold and windy at the beach. Well your fiance will have to phase up before he can have weekend leaves. I mean he can leave on the weekends at first but he has to have a buddy and he has to be back at a certain time. But getting to phase 2 or 3 is not hard at all. So just tell him to work his butt off to get to the phase in which he is allowed to stay out all weekend. All he has to do is room inspections, uniform inspections, and a test. It should only take about a week or two if he trys. That way you two can have a really nice weekend together after the wedding =)

After you two get married all he has to do is go to the base and add you onto his dependents. I think it will be easier for you to go with him if you can because they might ask for your financial situation. Not exactly sure yet. As soon as he adds you to his dependents then it should be added to his next check.  So even if you do not live here with him you will still get it. It's really nice to have it because it covers all of your living expenses. For me it covers rent, water, cable, and our cell phone bills. It's really nice. If you have any questions just ask. I was sooo out of the blue until I meet a really nice lady on this website before I moved to Pensacola.

CCity-

You sound like the person I should be talking to as well! I try to get advice from some people, but they can be so mean and discouraging!

My finace and i have been dating for 5 years..he is 26 and I'm 24. He will be in Pensacola early September for AT A school. Whenever he is allowed weekend leave i plan to drive down (I'm only a few hours away) and get married w/ one of those beach wedding companys. Really small and cheap! Anyway, I then plan to move down soon after that..how long does it take to get BAH?

As long as you guys are married than they will because you do not live with him. They might have you fill out a finance work sheet to make sure that you are going to be financially fine. I'm not exactly sure. I know I had to do one before my husband went to bootcamp but that is because I would not be able to contact him. If you guys were married right now you guys could be collecting the money. He can put you on his Navy Federal account and have money transfered to your personal account.

yeah he's been told that it's really hard for people to become a rescue swimmer but he said he's gonna do it. I think he will. He's been swimming constantly the last year and he has gotten really good. Well i wouldnt be able to move down their till 4 months anyway because i graduate in december. That's good to be 5 minutes away. So even if he gets denied the brown bagger, do you they still pay fo me?
Comment by CCity on July 16, 2011 at 8:57am
okay since he is a rescue swimmer, I'm not going to lie it is going to suck at first. He has to go thro flight school, then rescue school, and then when he gets to A-school he can live with you. Sooo..be expecting to wait about 4 months before he can live with you. I live in apartments called the Pines at Warrington. They do not have much information online because they are a low income apartment. The thing is they are new apartments so they are really nice. I didn't even know they were low income apartments until another resident told me. The people here are really nice too. We are only 5 minutes away from the base too.  Tell me which ones you find on the internet and I can tell you how they are.You will want to get a car asap. The taxi's here are really expensive. Also let your boyfriend know that he has a tough road ahead of him but if he reallly sticks to it he will be able to make it. He needs to swim as much as possible. As soon as they get on hold for rescue school they start making them swim and thats when people start to drop. So far out of 30 people there are only 9 people left in one class. Anddd it's only week 3 out of week 5. He can try to get brown baggers when he is in rescue swimming but a lot of people get denied. It doesn't hurt to try though. They said they don't want us wives to "bother"  them and get in way of their training. But that does not mean you cannot live by yourself. It's worth it to be here with them.
