While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

My Base Guide

Space A Travel Eligibility
Ok, this is a very important link and I hope it stays valid if I forget to update it. Just so everybody knows, legal dependents are now allowed to travel Space A while their military sponsor is on deployment orders. If you don't know what this is it is very simple. You can fly at little cost almost anywhere in the world on a government aircraft. You sign up on a list and wait for your number to be called. So, if your sailor is deployed to say, Japan, you can jump on a Space A flight to Japan for say 30 dollars. I don't know the exact amount, but it is cheap. Take a look at this, Google Space A travel, you will get all the answers you need. If you have more questions, ask.

Comment by Gman Navy Husband on May 24, 2011 at 3:44pm: When you gals are finished down there, remember, you are allowed DLA (Dislocation Allowance) and that your sailor needs to fill out paperwork for it before he leaves Pensacola. They may tell him to wait until his next command but remember, DLA is for dependents, you are entitled to it and make sure your sailor doesn't take no for an answer. It took my wife 3 or 4 months to get it but we got it.

ccity- thank you as well. My husband was told he couldn't put in his request for brown bagger until he had a lease with his name on it. So, we have that now and he says he's starting the process now. Either way, I'm just excited to live near by to see him. Thanks for all the info from you and gman. It is much appreciated :)

Comment by CCity on May 22, 2011 at 8:33am: dmb- I am in Pensacola right now and no their BAH is not suppost to change so if it does you need to have your husband talk to them about it. It does not change until they are finished with their training. The reason that it does not change is because they are told not to bring their families here. Thats another reason why they don't pay for your move until they are done with training. Has he put in his request for his brown baggers? My husband got denied when he did, so make sure he does soon to find out. Cheif told him he will not get approved until he reaches A school. So I guess it depends on where they are in their training. So keep that in mind.

Comment by Gman Navy Husband on May 20, 2011 at 5:14pm: dmb, BAH didn't change for us while my wife was there. Her command said that they wouldn't change it. I don't really understand why, but that is what they said and did. BAH for our home of record was less than P-cola so I don't know about paying anything back. Her BAS was wrong and we did have to pay that back. It was a mess for a while.

Will BAH stay the same as it is where i'm at now or will it change to pensacola? I've heard it doesn't change and then I heard that if it doesn't change(because it's supposed to) when they find out they will take it all back at once. If BAH doesn't change, do you know what? I would assume that it would change which is why we found an apartment within p-cola BAH price range just in case.. I'm so confused at this point.

I'm about to buy 2 plane tickets (my mom is going) for June 17-20. We are probably going to stay at Bay Bridge in Gulf Breeze. Anyone heard of them?
