Where in FL do you live? have you been up here to look around at all? you could always come up here and take a look at the housing. :)

have you gone to navyonestop online and looked up the housing down here yet? they have floor plans and pictures and stuff...

Well maybe from their experiences they werent able to, but i never had any issues, nor has anyone ive talked to. we didnt paint our house in CT nor did we in our apartment down here in GA.. and remember johnnymacsgirl, you dont necissarily have to paint your hosue to get color, my house walls are white, but with all the decorations and stuff it breaks it up and looks nice, we also have those wall quote vinyl stick ons for the walls and they make it look super cute!!! :)

On base they have 2 bedroom apartments with 4 per building they usually wont let u get a 3 bdroom unless you have atleast one child.. but if u get lucky and get a 3 bdroom they have townhouses and the newly remodled ones are really nice, thats what my friend moved out of, the apartments arent that bad.. im nto a fan of them bc i think they look kinda like the proijects on the outside lol but they arent they are nice, but kinda small which is why im not a fan. They have single family 4 bedroom houses (i think they are 4 bedroom) either that or 3 but the only single family homes are for e-6 and above because they are super nice and brand new... but you would probably get a 2 bdroom apartment unless like i said u get lucky and get a 3 bedroom townhouse (2 storys) but they are connected to atleast 1 other house. most are 4 townhouses in 1 building together

You can, i dont live in base housing down here.. but i have friends that do, you are allowed to as long as you re paint them back to a neutral color :) When I lived in CT i had friends with walls painted. I have had nails and everything under the sun even screws in my walls to hold up heavy pictures and decorations and never had any problems with housing (its the same company that owns housing down here as in connecticut Bealfour Beatty (sp?).. Before you move out and when you move in they give you a sheet on certain rules for the houses.. the holes in the walls have to be less than a certain demension but if they are bigger than what is alotted for them to just paint over (i.e. a small picture hanging nail) you can always go to the store and get putty and putty them up bc they re paint the walls once you mvoe out regardless back to "their" base housing colors as long as you patch the holes you will be fine. :) I had no issues in CT with that, and my friend that just moved out of housing down here in march had no problems with it either (she had TONS of stuff on her walls in the most random places) lol

Hope that makes u feel a lil better about base housing. We are moving into base housing after my husband gets back and our lease on our current apartment is up bc its a 2 bdroom and were trying for a baby so we'll need a 3 soon and a 2 bedroom out in town is better (i think for price and BAH and all that depending on where u live) but for a 3 bdroom its a little pricey on the BAH since its only 990 e-4 and below and then i beleive 1040 for e-5 and it goes up every rank after that.. but base housing covers basic utilities and rent so its just the smarter way to go for a 3 bdroom.

I'm sure you will like it down here! I love it!! My husband said hes going thinking about doing back to back sea duty so he can stay on his boat hes on and stay down here for sure lol.... there isnt a 'whole lot' to do, but were always able to find something.. jacksonville is less than a half hour away, brunswick is too, and savanah is like hour and a half away or so well maybe a little more than that but its not bad! :)

LOL thats what my hubby says too.. it was a llot more 'navyed out' when we first started living together, its starting to get less and less navy bc my husband loves his job and is awesome at it... but he definatly could care less about if the house had navy stuff in it anymore! when i first met him his whole wardrobe of shirts said something alont the lines of Navy and now they dont haha...

Kingsbay isnt 'that' big.. upper base is a decent size... lower base is HUGE but u dont get to go down there very often bc thats where the waterfront is and when they have the ARC set you have to have the 'special im on a boat' badge to get down there. it is a nice base tho! the MWR always has stuff going on they play movies at the pool (its closed now but they did in the summer) and now they are playing movies outside at the youth softball fields... they just did afamily appreciation day and had crafts bouncehouses and a few carnival rides. (def not what they advertised for but it was fun my 4 yr olf LOVED it!) The Barracks are right by the off-crew office, the NEX, gym, mcdonalds, navy fed, commisary, NMCRS, fleet and family, and Navy college are al grouped together so in all reality its a decent size but the buildings are all in the 'same' area and it makes it easier for sailos wihout transportation to walk.. but getting to lower base they wouldnt be able to shuttle if needed, but not walk its over a mile just from the gate to the waterfrint depending on which roads u take lol but i'll wrirte more abour kbay tomorrow i have asleep study tonight and have to drop my son off!
