My son is ghost ridding on a sub. he was on the Miami. in order to finish his quals for his Dolphin. My question is this. he couldnt tell me what boat he was going on and said they were leaving shortly. that was 2 weeks ago. i have not heard from him since. is this normal? any help would be appreciated.

The only thing I can add is that he will be on a Fast Attack. Most likely the same class boat as Miami. I doubt he's on a full length deployment. So, you should hear from him when they get back.
My grandson is also on the USS Miami and he was told he would go on a "ghost ride" in October on the USS Jacksonville for 3 months. I am so glad they let these Nubs go on a ghost ride to make is easier for them to get their Dolphins.
thanks everyone for the advice. i just though it was weird that when he was on the Miami, he was able to let me know the name and texted me the night before to say they were leaving... maybe because it was his first deployment?
Gina - thanks for the info. my son told me he was "itching" to get back "underwater again" LOL. he also loves being on a sub. I myself would never be able to handle it. Dont like closed in places. I did send him emails about things happening w/family all good of course. and skyped him 2x while in ports, along with a few calls. like they say no news is good news...
Hi ISH-MOM and all, Well, I guess contact or lack of contact must depend on the individual boat and CO? My sailor is a NUB as a rider and he sent us his email address w/i 5-6 days and was responding fairly regularly until recently when he said things were getting "hectic". Also, he was able to call me and several other family members about 2 weeks after getting underway. He's on a boomer so really was not expecting a call. Sounds like I've been very lucky! I'll take it: }}}} PS: I also contacted my local county auditor about him needing a ballot for the primary and they said they send them out to subs "all the time" I don't know if it reached him in time to vote, though.
