OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Hi tidefan - Congrats on your son's choice of the Navy. Is he planning to be a submariner? My son is in Groton now and if I can give you any details - I am getting ready to go there for the first time for his BESS graduation, I will be glad to fill you in.
Stay tough through boot camp - that is the hardest part for us moms - it gets alot easier when they get to Groton. Boot camp teaches them things they need to know to cope and survive all that they eventually are going to go thru. My son's hardest part now is to learn to wait. The younger generation wants instant gratification, not in this man's NAVY. All good things come with time and plenty of hard work. See Ya,

he is planning on SECF. He is older and has been working on this for a year or so. My family had some health issues and he took care of us during that time but we are healthy and fine and his time has come.

Hi my son is in basic training and will go to Groton when he is a sailor. My question is when they depart on Saturday what time do they leave for the airport and which airport. My son is doing fine in basic training so far

Welcome...what an exciting time for both you and your family, but especially him. Congratulations and thank you for his service. My son Nick has been in the submarine service for 3 years now, and is stationed in GA. We went to both boot camp graduation as well as A school in Groton. It is quite an adjustment for you all, and there will be hard days, and sad letters and calls, but just remember to always be the cheerleader for him, and stay positive and strong. I promise you, he will get through it all, and be the better man for it. 3 years later, my son will say, geeze, looking back now, bootcamp and school were nothing. :-) (I laugh now, but what I was hearing at the time was not that). This site got me through alot of heartache, worry, and just plain missing my kid. If you need anything at all, or have any questions or concerns during the process, just get on here, there is always someone that can help and direct you. We are all family now!!! Godspeed to your son, and bless you for raising such a fine young man that would volunteer for such an honorable service.

Lots of great Moms to answer questions! My oldest is a Nuke, in 4 years, out of Groton and now deployed. Younger brother just got his orders for Washington State, also Sub, sonar tech. Busy Sailors, busy Mom, proud Mom! -

Hi Tidefan - I was reading your posts and my son is older too and he put off going into the Officers Training School to take care of me when I was not feeling well. By the time he finally was able to sign u[p, he was too old for the Nuke Program that was his first choice too. That's what good sons are all about. Gotta Love that guy!

Welcome tidefan! Your Sailor will really like Groton and you will really like N4Ms!!!! HAHAHAHAHA Talk about support during those quiet times when we don't hear from them! These Ladies are awesome!!!! My Son is in Groton now and loves it!! Keep writing to your son once you get his address for BC training; even if you don't hear from him. They are so busy but so much need our encouragement received on those letters we all sent them! God bless you and your Sailor!! Please thank him for his Service in our great and beautiful Country!!

Welcome tidefan! My son left Groton at the beginning of July. Navymom2013 is correct once they are out of basic things are better. More freedoms although those have to be earned! Don't know what part of the country you are from, we are from south Louisiana but it sounds like your son will get to Groton just in time for winter! That was the worst for mine. He hated the cold! Swears he will never be stationed anywhere that it snows!! I'm sure we will hear more from you in the future!! Best of luck!!

he leaves for BC a month from today-we have been doing day trips and just spending time with him watching movies and just having quality time. My daughter is in college and will come home next weekend to spend time with him. she did not come home this summer

Hello all! My son Jeff is presently serving in Groton. I have lived in CT all my life, so having him stationed close by has been an absolute blessing. I'm asking for prayers, he's presently out on a short tour. Only a couple of weeks. I love being a Navymom. Jeff decided on 9/11/01 that the military was what he wanted to do with his life, he enlisted in 2003 right out of high school. It's been 10 years already. God bless all our sailors, active, retired and most of all those who gave their lives for us.
I will answer anything I can about Connecticut. I live about an hour south of the base, but I will try to be a help with any questions you may have.
