Stacey. I try to e-mail him every other day. One thing I do is, I number the e-mails. That way he knows what order to read them in when he gets them. I've only heard from Alex twice since he left last March. But he says our e-mails keep him sane.

Hi all,

I just thought I'd let you all know how our weekend went with our adopted sons and daughters.

(Saturday June 20, 2009)

We had a great evening with Savannah (Navy Wife), Brandon (NAS Oceana), Erene, and Trever (USS Gunston Hall). We ate hamburgers, chips, and cream cheese brownies and ice cream. We played RISK (haven't played that in a long time)! Then we closed with sharing prayer requests and taking turns praying for them. We all had FUN! Check out the new pictures on our profile page slide show.

(Sunday June 21, 2009)

Had a great Father's Day! Yvonne was up at 5:45 a.m. making cheesecake and homemade bread dinner today to be celebrated with Sarah (daughter) and Brian (son-in-law), Trevor (USS Gunston Hall), Branden (NAS Oceana) and Savannah (Navy Wife), and Erene (civilian). Sarah and Brian got me a tripod for my camera (that's why I'm in this group photo). We watched "Time Changers" while Yvonne finished fixing dinner. A good Christian movie! Interested in time travel? Dinner included a pork loin roast, peas, and rice, that were great! But then came the cheese cake for dessert! MMMmmmmm! Need I say more?

Melanie, Can you get in contact with the Enlisted Wives Club? They can be a great way to help you deal with the deployment stress. Also, you can contact one of the engineering Officers wives. They are more than happy to be their for you. They are a great source of ways to deal with deployments. Finally, I might suggest stocking up on your favorite chocolate. My personal favorite were Malted Milk balls.

Hi everyone ....WOW I have not been on for awhile and I did go back about 4 pages......"WE can life or exist in fear....." As far as answering questions all you really need to say to people that you are so happy that your son is getting to do what he wants....
My son has been on a sub for over 6 years. and still worries more about me driving down the highway than him on a sub......My heart goes out to all that are filled with worry .......You will miss so much that your loved ones will have to share with you .......As far us mom;s feeling different and a wife I don't believe that for one moment.......true love is true love....everyone is just as important as the next....I feel that everyone does express themselves differently, how boring it would be if that was not so .....it feel it is a little easier for my because my son went in a little older (22) but, really I is because I trust him......you all have been great mom's (family members) you raised wonderful intelligent "younger men" just trust them to do everthing in their power to keep themselves safe....and get ready to share this adventure with them ....my huggs to all here.....I have a big shoulder and ears if anyone needs to vent.......have a blessed day

Tanya I know what you mean sometimes my son your husband say things and we look at them like WHAT do you know whay your saying to me. But I guess thats the way they are. Must be a Navy thing LOL. Its great that we can express our feeling but at times we have to check how we express it. By the way hows your son and puppy?

Tanya I know it wasn't directed to anyone. With my son going to the Hawaii soon I know all about being in harms way with China and all but I know he has had the best training. So I just pray that nothing happens to him or our sailors. But like he told his father and me I joined to protect you and everyone in the USA. He also plans on getting his degree in the military and making it a career. He knows anything can happen and in his words willing to die for his country. I love and support him and what he belives in.

Tanya, there is a difference between being realistic and just repeating wrong assumptions. I have two sons in the Navy and am the most realistic person you are likely to meet. But, the submarine service is not the most dangerous job in the Navy. To repeat a false statement doesn't make it true. There are any number of very dangerous jobs in the navy and I won't say otherwise. Years of being a part the Navy family allows me to say that I hope you find some peace with your son's choice of career.

Thanks Ginger & Karen we are here to support our sailors. I see the news each day sometimes I like what I see other times I don't. But one thing for sure I'm not about to say anything on this site that would cause any discomfort to anyone. If you have something to say and its directed to someone than you can send that person a personal message to their mailbox so no one else gets uncomfortable. Just wanted to say that.

My family has been Navy for 3 generations. The last accident on a sub that caused a death was the sub that ran into a mountain underwater a few years ago. Although I do not want to lessen the loss of this sailor , it was the first death in decades. The last sub lost by the US Navy was in 1972. The technology that caused the Threshers loss in no longer used by the Navy. If you have a person who says something that makes you uncomfortable. Ask them how they would feel being stuck in a large metal tub under the ocean for 3 months at a time. Then tell them your son does it so that they can live their lives as they choose. BTW, Alex likes the saying' "There are two kinds of ships, Targets and Submarines." Submarines safety is a top priority for the Navy. I understand your fears, but actually I worry more about my oldest son who is stationed at Norfolk. He has to drive to and from the base with those crazy VA drivers. If you are worried about your son's choice of service, just ask us anything that you think will help. That's why we are here.
