I agree we need to talk to our sons........I'm blessed to have an older son that will not risk it ......he said that in HI there is no reason to drink and drive......many times he has called me to talk when out with friends and he is not drinking because he is the driver....I also tell him that it may not seem fair but he is older and needs to look out for the younger guys whether on his boat or not...... but since their brains aren't done growing till after 22 we need to keep them all in our prayers and to keep talking to our older guys to watch over them as best they can

Hi, Vicki V. and welcome to Sub Moms! There are two other KENTUCKY moms I know of: Linda Moore and Sue46 (click their names). All of us know about "those days" when our son's room is still clean and too quiet... we're happy to see clothes all over the floor and empty soda cans on the dresser! You shout out whenever you like. Hugs, k.

I agree I would also love to see that number go up much higher....I know that it happens on occasion I'm just thinking that maybe we should take a look at the complete picture and see why there is so much drinking going on....because there are programs put in place to prevent this.....why aren't they being used....

Thanks ladies for the trip down memory lane. I do remember the box and the phone call that he made it. It has been 10 years this November and I'm still thrilled and proud at the choice my son made.

Yes, the Box does go to their home of record.
Joanne, if the spouse does not follow the sailor to school then the only things you are entitled to are medical benefits (check with the recruiter) and the ability to shop at a commissary or exchange. But you must first get a military ID card. If you follow him to sub school then you get housing or an allowance to pay for off base housing.

I cried when the first Box arrived. I thought that when my other son went in that I had it all under control. I knew what to expect and when the Box would arrive. I was so sure I'd be fine. Then my second son left and the box arrived. I cried for two days. I just wish N4M was around then.

Chavo, Is your grandson going to be a Nuke or a non-Nuke ET?

Hi Ginger,
I am Northern Calif sub mom too. We are in Santa Clara County. It was just beautiful outside today - mid 70s. Our guys are missing some fine weather.
Regards, B.

Teresa,
On mailing - PLAIN white envelopes. No doodles. No decals. No perfume stationary. No bulky stuff inside. At least in the beginning. Our son was very clear that he didn't want anything that would result on getting called out.
