Yvonne, did Nick say he'd have some liberty when they returned from this cruise? We're expecting to see Drew some time in March! And you've given me the idea to rent Crimson Tide to watch while he's here... and he can tell me about stuff on the boat (unclassified stuff, of course).

Now, the little devil sitting on one shoulder is saying, "Rub it in!" But, the little angel sitting on the other shoulder is saying, "Have a good time in San Diego, Yvonne!" Hugs! k.

oops, forgot to say that the sub is the Alabama (hence the title of the movie)...

Hey, Amber! That movie takes place on my son's sub (pretend) and he says the guys all hate it because it's so unrealistic (hope that helps). Hugs! k.

Unfortunately that happens. It took a lot longer for my son than he thought it would because they were very busy and had some other issues on the boat. I know that's a little vague but so was he when we spoke.

I belong to the group Knit for the Navy. We knit, crotchet and make quilts to send to ships and subs. For the next two months we will be making blankets for the USS Tennessee. If any of you would like to join us or help us with shipping costs, please check out the Knit for the Navy group. The address for donations is there. Thank you all.

Hi, ya'll! Just catching up with everyone tonight...

Just FYI, the official name for that Dolphin pin is Submarine Warfare Insignia.
I found a good article about it on Wikipedia and just posted the link in the blogs area on my home page.

I also posted the document our Ombudsman sent on how to send email to a submarine, and things to know about the process.

Hope these help! Hugs, k.

Thanks, Mark! After visiting my home page, I see what you mean.

I'm sorry if I gave ANYONE the impression that my son "bought" his quals. He just found that qualified sailors were more easily persuaded to take the time to test him, if he offered to bring candy to the exam.

Aside from being a Nuke, he's an Eagle Scout, church camp counselor, and nephew of a youth minister. My husband has a Top Secret clearance for the aircraft design he does. My father was a designer for NASA. Trust me, this family knows how to live and breathe OPSEC.

Respectfully submitted,
Kaye

Hi Kaye,
I'm a sub vet and I loved what you said about your son "spreading the love". He clearly has a lot of things in life figured out. Also, don't sweat suggestions that he might get in trouble - a big part of qual signoffs is getting busy people to take time to sit down and talk with you. I'm SURE that that is what actually occurred - good on him!
