I haven't been here in a really long time so I will reintroduce myself.  My sailor is my oldest and only surviving child. He enlisted in October 2006 and is now Chief Petty Officer for ETNav division. At the moment he is in Guam on the Asheville. His family stayed in Hawaii. He has 1 son. I am in NE Oklahoma with my husband of almost 39 years. We lost our younger son in a car wreck in Dec. 2013. We have been very blessed in our life.

My sailor has been on deployment since October and due to the virus there is no definite end date to his deployment.  They were finally allowed to port the last day or 2 since February. It has been really good to hear his voice and see his face.

Hi all. Good to see some comments, not much happening for a long time. My sailor is still on USS Key West out of Guam. He's been in 3 years now. We are still living in Olympia WA... hanging around the house mostly.

SubmomIll - my son qualified on the Tennessee as the Maryland was still in drydock. He really liked that crew.

Hello. Have not been on in forever. Good see some familiar names. Nathan is still in and on sub. Will be 6 years in October. I am pretty sure he is going to make it a career. Time has just flown by for me. Our daughter graduated nursing school last August and is an ICU nurse in Hampton Roads, VA. Praying for her all the time and the sub crew, military and our nations. Stay safe everyone.

Hello!  My son recently finished up his time on the USS Tennessee, blue crew.  He is also now stationed on a sub tender in Guam, for 'shore duty' (Cath Bubblehead mom, I sent you a PM).  He was home in early March for a bit between duty stations.  His bear hugs are the BEST!  He has been in for about 6 1/2 years, and plans to stay in career.  Hope everybody is staying safe in this crazy world we live in right now.

It is so great to hear from everyone! LindaGirl it is great to hear your oldest is making a career of it. 
our sailor has been stationed in Guam for shore duty, but is attached to a sub tender (AAA for submarines) and has finagled his way to go out with the ship. Even though it is a ship, it is still part of the sub service.

i too pray for all our sailors as they serve. Whether to stay in or get out is a huge and often scary one for them. I can say the Navy has been good for my son. He has another year and a half for sure, but he is constantly changing his mind. October marks 7 years. 5 of those training and on a boomer.

Hi all, I haven’t been on here in awhile, but I have been following the posts, and pray for each of you and your sailors. An update about my 2 Submariners, one is in Groton, Conn. and going on  Underways here and their to prepare for their first deployment, next year, since the sub came out of drydock, early last year.  My older sailor has less then a year to go on Shore Duty, where he is stationed at Virginia Beach at Dam Neck.  He recently made up his made to make a career out of the Navy, as he was prepared to get out next year after his Shore Duty commitment. He will have been in 9 years, next year.  My husband and I had encouraged him to at least stay in the Reserves, as he would be almost 1/2 there to having 20 years in for a pension. Needless to say, we were very much surprised that he had decided to stay in, much to our pleasure. Next step is to see where he will be sent for his Submarine Duty, after his shore duty is up next Spring.  We’re hoping it will be closer then Hawaii where he was for the first 5 years of his Service after he finished A school.  Hopefully, he’ll get to stay somewhere on the East Coast, as we live in New York, and it’s been such a pleasure having him in the same time zone as we are in, since he got back from Hawaii 2 years ago.  My how the time has flown.

Hello, everyone! I know I recently introduced myself, so I'll just give an update on my sailor who graduated prototype back in January. 

He ended up between the cracks as he had been detached from Goose Creek just hours before the Travel ban was announced. He ended up being given permission to fly to Guam and arrived at the end of last week. He is currently doing his two-week quarantine. I believe his boat is still out on deployment for a bit more time (the USS Key West), so we'll see what happens from here on out! I'm just relieved he made it there okay, as he was a do-everything-at-the-last minute person (literally less than 20 hours before flying out), and he had me and my husband stressed to the max trying to guide him through the problems that crop up when you don't give yourself enough time to take care of things. Kids. LOL!

SubMom - I have cognitive dissonance with hearing about flurries and frost this time of year, since i live in AZ...Hahaha! It does seem an odd time of year to be hearing about that in other places. I hope the weather straightens up for you soon!

topdog1p - I hope all is well in your town! Small town coastal living sounds amazing to me! 

CSW - CONGRATS to your sailor! How exciting! I'm sorry he won't send the picture though. They just don't get it sometimes that we still want to see the moment, face covered up or not! 

JayDee659 - Hiiiiii!!!! Good to see an update from you (although that's more from me not being on the boards as often as I should)

Mama4dog - Thoughts are with you and your sailor as he prepares to deploy. I'll be looking for the tips too, since my son will be headed down that path at some point this year too.

MaineGrammy - Hi, Joan! Thank you for the reintroduction! I'm an avid sewist and counted cross stitcher too! Those hobbies are my passion (other than my kids, of course). Good to "meet" another stitcher here!

Hi, SubMom!  My husband and I are newish empty nesters (first time for me, second time around to be an empty nester for him). I've been getting used to life with the kids out doing their own things better than I expected! I do miss having dogs, as our two Shih Tzus passed a couple of years ago. But, we have been wanting to do a lot of traveling, so we agreed we'd wait for several years before finding any sweet doggies who might want to adopt us. We just don't want to have to board them while we travel, since it just doesn't seem fair. Whenever we all can get back to traveling, that is. 

Kaye S. - Thank you for the reintroduction! Wow, 13 years! My sailor keeps saying he wants to make this his career and retire from this, so hearing there is an MMN with 13 years already under their belt gives me hope he'll accomplish his goal!

Just stopping by to say hello- woke up to flurries and frost this morning. I can honestly say I am over the weird weather we’re having here in Michigan. At this rate it’ll be fall before I can clean out my flowerbeds! I hope you all have a wonderful day!

 I will join the party and update how life is going.  My huby and i live in Washington in a very tiny town out by the coast. The whole county is the size of Rhode Island but only a population of 21k .  We have 2 kids both long out of the house. Daughter lives and works in Seattle. My son is a nuke officer on the Michigan currently stuck in Bremerton. He was to PCS out the beginning of April to Groton to teach at the sub school. We were laughing that the lawn of the house he closed on in Groton will be looking as shaggy as his is since no barbers are open and no one at his new house to mow the lawn.
