Thanks Yvonne and scubagirl!!  The sub vet sounds like a place my son may go. Kaye, I do steal myself as my son will graduate sub school in January and I know that the time to see him is now!!  After January, who knows where he will be!

Moms, this next comment isn't to depress you, but to help you prepare yourselves. My sailor, when he arrived to his boat, missed the next five Thanksgivings and Christmases in a row, due to deployments. So, steel yourselves, there may be "tough seas" ahead. Hugs, k.

Scubagirl,

If your son is in until Thanksgiving, we would be happy to invite him over on the weekends. Let him know he is always welcome here in our home and he can bring any friends on the sub he may have.

Amy and Marybeth, I talked to our friends and they are no longer ministering to the sailors, but said their old church still is. So, I called and left a message. Hopefully they will get back to me.   If i don't hear from them or no one in the church is reaching out, the Sub Vets that scubagirl mentioned sounds like they would at least be in good company. I hope everything works out for both sailors. Yvonne

Thank you so much scubagirl!!!    That is great and I know he will like this!!   He has only been in CT since Aug.  His PIR was 8/14/15!!  He has made many friends and he is definitely not lonely but you want them to have somewhere to go!!!   I don't know what I'll do when he does finish up schooling and is out there where I can't really talk to him!!  I've gotten use to talking to him every day!!!  But it really does help to have people on here to talk with!!   I will definitely let him know about the Sub Vets today!!  Thank you again so much!!!!

Amy, the Sub Vets have a big Thanksgiving Dinner at their club house on School Road.  My son and his girlfriend and several guys from his BESS class went.  They feed about 1200 sailors that day.  My son enjoyed the food and the day.  I have checked and they are doing it again this year.  I think they even have a bus they bring over to pick up the guys who do not have a way to get there.  He is now in VA and will be underway for Thanksgiving and Deployed for Christmas.  This is our new normal.  His Deployment date has changed 3 times and as my son says all the time. "It is what it is".  Or that is the Navy.  Life is now very flexible.  The Sub Vets made sure all the guys knew about their luncheon and I  am sure they will again.  This way he is going with a bunch of guys and not to a strangers house by himself.  Still trying to get my son to take advantage of John and Yvonne's hospitality but between all the under ways and other plans he has not.  I am hoping he will soon as he is still having a hard time meeting people since they are coming and going so much getting ready to deploy.  When talk to your son tell him about the Sub Vets luncheon.

Thanks John and Yvonne!!!!   Like I said he may not go but I would like for him to have the option and if others are going then he just might go with them!!   He's not shy, just kind of wary of strangers but if they have others there that would make him feel a little better!!!   Thank  you so much again!!!

Thanks Marybeth & Navymom9828!!!  It has been a very hard year, just taking it day by day!!  If you do hear of anything going on for them please let me know, I'm not sure my son would go to someone's house or not, I just can't bear the fact of him being by himself, although I can hear his reaction to that "AWW Mom, I'm not a baby anymore"!!!  :)

MaryBeth and Amy,

John and I have friends in Groton who we know would be happy to invite your sons over for Thanksgiving Dinner. They were doing what we are doing for a while on the weekends too. Let me get in touch with them and see if I can give you their information. In the meantime, maybe you could let us know what your son's names are and how this couple can get a hold of them.

I'll be back in a while with the information.

Yvonne

Thanks Navymom9828!  Yes, they put on a big spread for the sailors on base.  From what I gather it is quite delicious!
