So sorry for your loss! It is tough losing your parents. Mine hav been gone for a while but it is still hard. My son is also in Groton. I just came back from a visit so will not be able to get there for Thanksgiving. I don't think he will be home either. My first one with out him. I'm sure I'll shed tears. So, it would be a relief to know that he is with a family as well. Not sure that he will go but knowing that he has that oprion from such generous folks would be a relief.
That is such a generous thing you and you're husband do Yvonne!!! You are a true blessing to those sailors!!! Does anyone know of someone that does this in Groton CT?? My son will not be able to come home for Thanksgiving, this is going to be very hard for all, I lost both my parents this year so without him coming home too I think I'm just going to try and skip Thanksgiving all together :(. It would make me feel better knowing that he does have somewhere to go where he can get a home cooked meal and be with others instead of just by himself. I have no time left at my job or I would be up there with him on Thanksgiving!! Please let me know if anyone knows of someone I could contact please! Thank you!
thanks mrsb. We really enjoy it!
Yvonne
Yvonne, what a wonderful thing you and your husband do!!! My son is not in Norfolk, he's deployed, but how nice of you to invite Sailors into your home!!! When mine was in Groton there were people who also invited Sailors in for Thanksgiving; unfortunately mine had duty but they sent a whole turkey dinner back with the guys for him. It's so nice that you and your husband. and others, do this for our sons and daughters. God Bless you!!
Hello Moms!
John and I wanted to let you know that if any of you have sons or daughters here in Norfolk, VA. and they can't go home for Thanksgiving, we would be happy to invite them to our home to spend the day with us and enjoy a home cooked Thanksgiving meal. You can go to our page on the site to find out more about us. We've been doing this for the past 15 years-every weekend and holidays as well. :)
Yvonne
hello all!!
I don't hear from my son much either. when I do he doesn't want to talk about work. I usually ask him how work is going and he says "its work". so I just keep him up to date on what is going on here. he is happy and doing what he wants. when he calls or wants to Skype, I do a little happy dance!lol
His dad and I are divorced. So, he either calls or texts his dad, then his sister and then me. I am not on the "list" just his dad is an just this week I sent an e-mail to the commander requesting that I be put on it. I know that my son is the only one that can do that. When he was home in January I was trying to explain to him why I should be on the list. Also that I want to be. I am waiting to get a response from my son or his commander. I did get alot of comments and support about my e-mail. I was getting really desperate because my ex does not share anything with me until.....a few days ago when he sent me a picture of the letter he received from the commander about an accommodation and medal that our son had gotten. I have never gotten any of the e-mails from my ex that the commander puts out. A very kind Mom from the submarine forwarded them to me when I said I did not get any of them. Thank you to all the Mom's here so much kindness, support, honesty and caring. Hugs to you all <3
Well all of you Mom's are really really lucky. When my son is above water I am lucky if I hear from him 2 times in a month. He does not tell me very much of what he is doing just that he does alot, is busy and tired!!
