Tysmom, is your son and mine on the dame boat? mine is USS Charlotte. He did not put me on the Ombudsman list yet. I just sent him a box to Pearl Harbor with some small wrapped Christmas gifts in it telling him to pack them in his sea bag and open them for Christmas.
baby dukie's mom how have you been? If you remember our sons graduated BC and A school together. My son is in VA and will be deploying later this fall for the first time. They have been on about 3 underways since he got there in March. They are underway right now and plan two more or so before they leave for deployment. My sailor hates being the NUB and had to wash dishes the first time out for 3 weeks. Not fun he said. He says he will earn Dolphins while out for deployment. Maybe he will see some of HI eventually. My son can not wait to get this underway over as he has plans to ask gf to marry when they get back next year. If all goes well they will marry next fall. My son is on the Newport News and it is an older boat. He says they may decommission it while he is assigned to it. Good you are back from your own deployment.
Johanna, great ideas. I am doing stockings for the whole sub and have 169 small stockings with a slim jim, a punch balloon and going to put some other small toy along with a candy cane in them. The FRG is putting the names on them along with a coupon from their family for different things, such as a back rub, car wash, etc. The FRG is also going to put in the stockings a free home cooked meal for the sailors that do not have a family member email the coupon to go in the stocking. I am putting fire balls in a packing instead of other packing materials. Maybe I will order some of the little parachute men. I started to and thought maybe they would think I was crazy. LOL little do they know I am. My son may kill me so I am not letting him know I am the one doing the stockings.
Daysleeper, that is exciting. I hope all the babies continue to thrive. I can not imagine 4 identical boys.
Co-Twins- I agree you need to get on the list. If it was up to my son I would hardly know anything. He will have first deployment later this year. I have made it a point of helping the FRG group from a distance by contributing money to fundraisers and buying the t-shirt they designed. That way I know they will remember me and I feel as though I am helping my sailor and the other sailors on the boat. Most of them are single and from what I gather not to much involvement with family. This is my way of helping with a little bit of mother love.
Here si my dilemma for halfway boxes. My scatterbrained son has not put me on his obundsmans list yet. You get the boxes to her right? I have asked him more than once.
Thanks for the info. I have ordered off the internet a pack of 9 Zebra pens and a 2 refills. I am going to put part in my son's half way box and part in the other single sailor box I am doing. Everything I put in the box I figure if they do not want for themselves they maybe can trade with some one. Since I do not know the other sailor I am trying to put things that any of them would like and putting some personal items for my son in his box along with the protein bars, soap, etc.
