Nana Donna, congrats to your grandson. I don't think they get anything for it--it is just some very nice recognition for a job well done. Not sure, still seeing if there is more info on it.

Holy smokes Ocenslayer, that is A LOT of food. Mine eats better than he did before he left home. Could one difference be that ship food is it as there are no care packages coming in? They can bring some stuff with them right?

This is my boy when we visited a few weeks ago in GC before he goes to BESS. This is while eating like a horse. I don't think he can lose any weight.

Anyone out there have a Sailor on the USS Minnesota?

Comment by Samson on September 14, 2015 at 5:39pm
IWhen my son is out I email him quite often. Almost every day. Not every email is personal. I send world news that I copied and pasted, sports info, jokes, if his dad is aggravating me he gets one of those....he loves his dad and finds his antics terribly funny. He was even having an argument about a song's lyrics so I sent those to settle it. In fact I was really sick for about a week and he checked in because hehadn't heard from me. They love getting emails....it keeps them connected to the world and something new to share.

hello all!!

my son's weight has gone up and down since joining the navy.  he lost the most weight during boot camp.   he has since gained it back!LOL  when he comes home, which hopefully will be soon, he will watch what he eats.

How often would you recommend sending email to those on deployment on fast attack subs?

Comment by Samson on September 14, 2015 at 2:27pm
You can send them treats in mail drop if they get one. My son likes jerky, protein bars and junk food of course. Also my zon says that they have candy etc they sell to earn money for events. Believe me there is extras snuck on board by the guys. Also lots of trading going on. Some cooks are better than others. There is always food available because of different shifts. However the bulk of food is at standard meal times per my son. My boy went in slim and has put on weight. They tend to eat out alot when on land. My boy has found every decent restaurant within 50 miles! We are going to see him in a couple of weeks and we can't eat at all of the places he wants to take us to or we will do nothing but eat.
