LindaGirl - sorry about your mom. 94 years - wow. You were lucky to have her so long! My submariner reenlisted last year to add 2 more years so that he could get shore duty. That is one way to get off the sub! He was assigned to a sub tender in Guam (It is sort of like AAA for submarines, but is a surface ship). He was supposed to stay in Guam when the ship went out, but he finagled his way to go out with it and is having a blast. He has been to Australia, Thailand, India, Philipines, and Singapore. Not sure what his plans are when his enlistment is up in 2 years. The Navy has been good for him.

I just got off the phone with another Navy mom - her son left the service after 9 years and is missing it terribly. He was SWCC (Special Warfare). He is in nursing school, but really wants to join a fire dept! She also has a Marine who is planning on leaving this coming year. I think there is a bond that is formed in these types of service that is good for the guys!

Glad your boys are doing well!

Hi Kevsmom93 and Cath Bubblehead, Nice to hear from both of you.  How are you and your sailors doing?  Update on my 2 sailors -  my oldest is doing Shore Duty in Virginia Beach, a lot closer to home then Hawaii.  Now an 8 hour drive away, verses an 11 hour plane ride!  He gets out in Spring of 2021, after 9 years, but right now he is undecided, but leaning towards getting out, as he does not want to go back on a sub, even though we told him he could try for a surface vessel, so we’ll see.  My youngest is stationed in Groton, Conn. and loves everything about being a Machinist Mate on a sub and is getting ready to do a month long Underway, which he is excited about, as his sub has been out of water, longer then it’s been in, so he can’t wait to get his “Sea-legs” and start doing what he has been training for.  My Marine Vet is on the FDNY Waiting list and is hoping to be called in the next year or two.  Always a waiting game. My 94 year old mom passed away in June, so the holidays aren’t going to be the happiest, so I’ll be glad when Thanksgiving and Christmas are behind us this year.  Take care, both of you and hope all is well in your lives.

WearsLargeHats, so sorry to hear this news.  I understand how discouraging this is.  Will be praying that he finally gets his leave and will be able to come home in September.  Keep us posted.

Bummer! Our boy was supposed to come home on leave in mid-May, then it was late May, maybe early June, or late June, or sometime in July, definitely 1st of August, no wait, now it is September. If they don't let him take leave in September, he will lose the days.

CSW, like getting a drivers license with a car with automatic transmission.  Then you get a car with a manual transmission.  You don't have to get a new drivers license, but you need to learn how to operate the stick shift,
