Congrats fayegirr14! Your journey is just beginning! The sub group is a special one, but a lot can happen between now and being assigned. 2 of my son's friends had glitches along the way, one is now in surface. Not to worry you, but to keep you flexible. It will be a year before he is actually assigned to a "boat". At this point - just keep your phone near you - his calls will come with no warning!
Greetings! I am a mom of a SR that JUST LEFT for bootcamp on July 7th. He has chosen the rating of Machinists Mate on a submarine. I hope it's not too soon to join this group. I am anxious to learn as much as I can about the Navy, submarines and make new friends. Our son is the first to leave the nest. He is 18 and just graduated high school so we have had a whirlwind few months. We have another son that is 17 and considering enlisting just not sure which branch.
This site is just awesome! I am so glad my SIL told me about it.
madhoby- That is great news! Us Mom's have all learned to appreciate the little things in this Navy life. Every minute is a moment we treasure with our Sailors.
Ladyrocker- I hope things are going better for you, hang in there as best you can. Remember he's brave and courageous because of you, something to be very proud of.
We went to see our son over the 4th of July weekend. Ship to Shore Seafood in Kingsland was good, but St. Mary's Resturant was much better. Pauly's cafe downtown St. Mary's was not so great. Fireworks show was decent, but I have seen better in a little town in Rockaway Beach Mo. Totally enjoyed the time we had and even though it was a Thursday to Monday trip and we spent all day driving Thursday from 3 pm to late Friday afternoon and then from 6 am Monday to 1:35 am Tuesday it was worth it. He was able to be with us from Saturday at 6:30 am to Sunday night at 10:00 pm, so we picked a good weekend to go as he was duty free on those two days.
Sinda, please see my comments below (dated June 29). Thanks! k.
I haven't replied on here for awhile. But I am here and read everything. Still grieving and well I was just wondering if anyone in here has a Sailor on the USS Minnesota?
Happy 4th of July everyone!
Heard from my Son. He said he is adjusting to the submarine. Also his chief told him if he qualifies senior and he gets his ship quals in 8 months they will augment him to go to school. He is interested in the Navy diver school. LOL this is from a guy who took forever to learn to swim. He said so far he is doing well with his qualifications. It was so good to hear from him again.
So who knows about Navy divers?
