Hello everyone I am glad to hear all the good news about our submariners. Welcome to the group Laura. Linda that is great news - I am experiencing the silent part of the Silent Service myself now Lol. Hope to hear something one of these weeks.
Laura G I have a grandson on the USS Alabama gold crew. He actually has me on his ombudsman list so I get all the updates. He is single and parents divorced so I guess he decided it was best to have me a middle bystander on the list. He has been on the Alabama for about 2 years now and has been under several underways. The Ombudsman has always kept me informed even though I don't live in WA
Welcome this group is great
Oh that is fun and interesting Baby Dukie's mama . Very cool
Hi all :) I'm new to the site and the group but I just wanted to say that all the posts and "pages" and links have been such a comfort to me. My only son is a "nub" on the USS Alabama and I knew next to nothing before coming to this site and this group. Missing him terribly but knowing I'm not alone in this helps so much! Thank you!!!!
baby dukie's mama, what do you mean by plank owner?
My son is also single and new to the sub life. I got an Out of Office from Ombudsman and that's it. I thought maybe I would get an info email following that one, but nope. Should I respond to the Out of Office email with an introduction and a few questions? Or what is the protocol.l
Reading some of your posts about your son's not wanting to stand out sounds familiar.
Going to chime in too...ditto for me, my son is single too. I know where you are coming from because he's been on several underways in the past and we were never a part of any of those, no ombudsman list for us. He finally added us to the list when he was deployed. Our very first email let us know to always continue to write no matter whether we heard from him or not. I think your son will go through this same transition and eventually understand it's no big deal to write home to Mom and or Dad. It doesn't make them a momma's boy or some kind of wuss..or whatever it is they get into their head :-/ We also get lots of updates and info from the ombudsman and the FRG. We also get lots of email updates we even have a contact email for the FRG. Both have been very helpful when we've had any questions. It's the same for our other son who is a Marine and also deployed.
