I'm on my son's list, and he is single!  Sometimes our kids think they can be independent, I guess.

Ditto the other comments Baby Dukie's mama - I'm on my son's ombudsman list and he is married!

don't worry baby dukie's mama, he won't be singled out!  I'm on the list for my son's sub and he's single too.  No one will know except the ombudsman.  :)

Hi Sub Mom's,

I guess I am not considered a sub mom, at least for the next few years.  Our son is no longer attached to a sub, as he and his family has moved and is starting his shore tour. We have been blessed to have them within a 2 hour drive for the last few years, but now it is at least a 2 day drive.  Thankful for skype!!  Thank you for this wonderful group. I have enjoyed this group.

Baby dukie's mama...if you go to the Website, "ombudsmanregistry.org", you should be able to finds your sons sub & write to the ombudsman yourself, introducing yourself & have her put you on her contact list. When you get to that site, follow the steps below:
1. Click on, "Contact Your Ombudsman"
2. Click on the part of the map where your son is
Serving.
3. Under "Regions", click which region. (Hawaii,
Only has one region).
4. Scroll under, "Commands" until you find your
Sons sub listed.
5. Press, "Contact", & start your e-mail to your
sons ombudsman.

Good Luck & I hope this helps!

baby dukie's mama........... Tell your son the ombudsman is for mothers of single sailors also. I was on the list for my son and there was no issue about it from anyone.  No one else has to know who he puts on it!!!!  Good luck.

Linda - I found a good article in the upper right column - Departures & Homecomings: http://navyformoms.com/group/submoms/page/departures-and-homecomings

I was really bummed, because I was ready to travel to GA for the homecoming - there is none for boomers.

When my DIL called me today to tell me he was off the sub and on his way to GA it came as a total surprise as we were ready for another 3-4 weeks. My excitement dissipates any disappointment for not being there.

While we will probably never be part of one of those homecomings, the value of the job he is doing is a worthwhile tradeoff - not that the others are not worthwhile, but the mission and load of the boomers is extremely sensitive, so there is more secrecy around them to keep them and us safe.

Thank you to all for the helpful information. We will be waiting for the text that the sub will be returning. The ombudsman has been helpful answering my questions. Hope at some point in his career we can attend a homecoming at the docks

Linda. The last time my son was returning to Kings Bay the ombudsman sent a text about 24 hrs before to have anyone who wanted to meet at Fort Clinch on Amelia island just to see the sub go by. Which, I believe, is the only way you could actually see it. Cath is right about the offloading away from base. It's completely different than fast attack homecomings.
