Once they finish sub school and once they are giving a duty station, How long after that do they go out on a sub? And for how long does anyone know?

When sending an e-mail to a sailor on a sub, can anyone tell me the difference between "plain" text and "html" text?

Micah's mom my son just got back from deployment and although I wasn't able to attend this time this how things went for those who could. The boats ombudsman let us know about two weeks ahead what the expected date was and if you were attending you had to give all your info so they could get you on the list to get on base, etc. I'm not sure how they all do it I'm sure it depends on the command but my son's is on stand down for 4 weeks and he has duty every 3rd day. It was the same when I visited him over Christmas year before last. I stayed 10 days and he was with me for 7 of those. I'm sure there are moms out there who can give you more advice as well. Most important is that you are on the ombudsman's list. Oh and yes the dates can vary. My son's boat got in a day ahead of what they said! Hope this helps!

Since I am a "newbie" sub mom, I am looking for an answer from you "experienced" sub moms.

When your son's boat comes in for a Homecoming and there is nothing on this Earth to stop us from being there - how many days should I plan to stay?  I want to be able to spend some time with my sailor, but I know he will probably be working also. (And I do know that no dates are ever written in stone).

Thanks in advance for the help!  :)

Is it common for families to be at the base when the boat returns?

Lori & Footnut- my son too is assigned to the Md, but is out on another boat for a ride along. He told me that even though his original orders said gold crew, that could change once the sub is operational again.

Mine is assigned to the Maryland too but I don't know what crew?
