WLH, I am happy to hear, my son will still be able to communicate.  His younger brother, 5, looks forward to his calls.  I apologize, I did not know that women are on subs too, nowadays, that's great.  I guess I have to do some more reading and get up to date.  Thank you sons and daughters for their service and sacrifice.  Have a great Tuesday everyone.

ABQ, your son will have a pretty regular schedule when not at sea. Expect normal communications punctuated by long silences when underway or deployed. The longest we've gone is about 6 weeks, but we are soon to pass that.

BTW, there are some daughters on subs nowadays.

csw,

So many wonderful things to do and see and new foods to taste! My husband and I were stationed there twice-first as enlisted(started our married life there; second time he was one of the Chaplains at the sub base at Pearl Harbor. He rode once a quarter with each of the 7 subs he was over. Loved it!!Sight seeing is great there...so many beautiful places to see and experience! To name a few-The Polynesian Cultural Center , Hanama Bay, Dole Pineapple Plantation, Waimea Bay(our favorite beach), Lots of water falls, Punchbowl Cemetery(military) just to mention a few. If your son is adventurous, he will enjoy every minute!

Aloha,

Yvonne and John

Hello ladies.  Here I am starting another new adventure, called the Sub life.  My son received his orders last week and will be moving to Washington State.  He graduates Prototype school November 16.  Nuke school has been stressful, ups and downs, and everything in between, for both of us.  He is very excited about his assignment, this is what he wanted from the start.  New adventures await him and I look forward to hearing his stories and visiting him at his home base.  Again, I know this new adventure will have it's ups and downs, but I know I have a group of ladies that will be going through or have been through everything.  I found comfort on the Nuke Moms page, knowing that other Nukes, were going through challenges too.  My son has been great at keeping in touch, I am very lucky.  I know that now that he is attached to a Sub, he won't have as much time to communicate.  Thank you ladies for your wonderful sacrifice and thank your sons for their service.  I'll stay in touch and go on this journey with my follow Sub Moms.

CSW: when my boy went from Charleston to Pearl Harbour, he had his car shipped there. He also had a month to get to Hawaii, so we got a nice long visit.

If you like Poke`, a Hawaiian Ahi tuna dish, have your sailor take you to the NOAA building on base. They catch their own fish and have a cafe in the building. Best freshest Poke` you can find.
