Wendy - my son was to a assigned to a sub that was being built... that was 3/4 years ago. He's been in and out of dry dock ever since and it been quite frustrating for him. But he has been out with other boats.  They still work on their quals through all the ups and downs. :o)

Wendy, my son got to his boat and, a couple months later, the boat had a crash. He managed to earn his dolphins while in drydock; Ithink it depends upon the circumstances. In fact, he has spent more time in dry dock and more time on the same boat than almost any other Nuke. Thankfully, he is now on shore duty. Everyone have a great week!

Wendy - It was in dry dock for 3 years I believe, but  while he was assigned - a little over a year. It was really cool to see the time lapse footage of them putting it back in the water. I wish I had downloaded it as they removed it a few months after posting!

He rode the boat from dry dock to base. It spent about another year going through tests to be active again. He was on the boat when they tested the ballistic missile!

Remember the Navy is hurry up and wait!

So my son arrived in Groton today along with 7 mates from boot camp. Got a text from him that he was on 5e bus from Rhode Island to the base and he’d contact me when he could. He’ll Ben in BESS for the next 42 days so we are counting down to that next milestone.

Thanks for the info Cath Bubblehead Mom. How long was his boat in dry dock?

My son graduates A school this week but is being sent to C School while his boat is in dry dock. By the time he actually joins the boat it wiil, hopefully, be closer to putting out to sea, sailing back to their home base.

Wendy,

my son’s assigned boat was in dry dock. He at some point was allowed a ride along on another boat where he earned his dolphins. Before that point he worked his tail off on the quals. He and his buddies earned the respect of the other sailors so their time as NUBs wasn’t too bad! Hope that helps!

My son just graduated A school and is assigned to a sub that is not operable at the moment. It isn't slated to begin repairs until some time in 2019. I was wondering what happens as far as all his qualifications for his Dolphins. I'm assuming he'll be able to go out with other subs so he can finish all the quals. Did anyone else ever have a similar problem?
