Jim's cupcake a typical boomer deployment will be 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 months give or take. A test underway may be days or weeks to "check things". Fast attacks go out for many months but they make more port calls.

My son is in GC in power school.

My son in prototype is running pretty silent too. Glad to know it's not just me not hearing as much as I'd wish.

COTwinSailorsMom, is that at GC or BS that they're having the picnic? My son's on crew so I don't think he'll get Monday off unless that's how it falls ... if I understand right.

Sounds like your son has the BC crud. Most kids get sick with respiratory gunk

mine too :/

we have to remember that they are also crunching for tests exams or whatever they call them.

I'm a bit tense today. I pray all is well with our boys. God bless us all.

I think my son is preping me for the silent treatment. He rarely calls and texts me one sentence per 8 texts I sent. He never looks at email.

I love reading all of you Sub parents.  I really don't belong but hopefully in about 21 days my SR will be in "Sub School".  I wanted to get to see posts and things that go on ..I can honestly say thank you all for preparing me.  I am so praying that Joeys PIR date is still tentative on June 13th.  Haven't received the "official form letter" but from others I have all the info needed.  He hates BC and can't wait to get out!  But as he say's "He's going for the prize" being "PIR"!  I have been on here and every where doing research, reading posts, etc.............and I know what it's going to be like.....the "running silent" part hits home and I still have a long way to go....almost 22 days and counting then hoping "my Sailor" will be off to Sub School in Groton the day after his PIR. He has a knee injury, got 2 wisdom teeth pulled, (all of which he has to make up) and a bad cold (high fever, headaches, runny nose and sore throat) anyhoo............I just saw this like alot I look at and just had to reply.  Thank you all for the wisdom and advise.

Take care and blessings to all!

Just wondering if there is a "typical" length for being underway?  And how about a maximum?  I know it is more a matter of food for the guys...vs, the Sub can maintain years and years of being underwater.  Just wondering what an "average" Boomer trip might be. Thanks.

Comment by susank on May 21, 2014 at 9:10pm
It might be different for a short underway but if it is a long deployment this applies.
