Proud Navy Mom I already sent the picture of the watermelon sub to my mother. I gave her the job of making it for our summer party when my sailor is home. And CO Twins mom we will use the little sailor I bought from you to ride in it. Perfect!

I live with a dry humor hubby, so I usually get all of Mark's comments.

In the meantime, on the countdown to see our sailor and wife!  It's been a year, and miss my son.  Plus, he did listen to us and NOT let this girl go!  They married by the Justice of the Peace in March, we got her down to base from VA to GA, and then they will have a formal wedding in August.  So, that will be two visits in one summer!

CO-mom, I should better explain :) No toes were stepped on here-I'm a submarine vet, who was trying to kee it light, cuz there really isn't an issue. I am familiar with the role of the Marine unit that supports the security group at Bangor and the Shipyard in Bremerton. They have a very specific, and vital role here, are well-trained (not right out of boot), and the Navy personnel and shipyard civilians that may encounter a Marine sentry on the job are well-briefed in how to conduct themselves with them. They do not do routine security, but are around for specific operations, when everyone must be on their toes. Encounters with them are infrequent, partly because it's a pretty small unit, and not a big part of being here, and it's just not a big part of the routine there. I have had many encounters with them over the years, and have never had an unpleasant one with them. It is important to follow the rules given in the briefing though. A good bakery would be a welcome addition, we're dependent pretty much on grocery store bakeries here. There's a well-known indy bakery abojt ten miles north of Bangor, in Poulsbo, and another in E. Bremerton, but they're both inconvenient.

Oklahomamama, you are so blessed, so close too.  Congratulations on your Son staying in Groton!!! I saw the "Bachelor's" buildings and they looked new to me and like apartment complexes and I believe they are the ones that actually have only two per room with two suites joined by a bathroom.  Very nice newer looking buildings.  I hope he is happy with his assignment and prob already knows the base and local places.  So much to see.  The Nature colors are just sharper and brighter in Groton! :-) God bless
