Sorry Mark did not mean to step on toes. My son has asked me to move there if he gets stationed there and he is convinced that is where his #1 choice is. I just don't want to pick up and move if it will not be a good experience.
I also hope my son is not disappointed. He is such a upbeat young man. always positive and caring. So much so he wants me to move there and open up a bakery and be a part of His navy.

I am somewhat familiar with the Marine unit at Bangor, and I can say that jarheads have mommas too - they're not so mean... :)

I think we can call the differences between the military groups healthy competition. Competition is not bad, one always likes to think the choice they made is the best.

We have Hope and Calvin college out here. There is high competition during the basketball season...brings out thousands of fans....same with Michigan/Michigan State games.

Packed and ready, except my suitcase may be over 50 lbs...no scale here.Hawaii here I come. Looking forward to seeing my sailor and the warm weather. Froze last night here and may again tonight. That is Michigan for you.

He will be home for just 3 days, then in think after sub school he comes home for a week or so. Thank you Susan for the info!

You can put him back on your insurance just for the amount of time he is home. If he is going to be driving on a regular basis from now on, try USAA.

Hey ladies! I haven't been on here in a while but I have a question that I'm hoping you guys can help me with. My son is coming home next weekend(yeah)! I know that he is going to want to go out and drive but we took him off the insurance while he was in Bootcamp. Have any of you gone through this? Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks!!!!

And do you know what Navy stands for? Never Again Volunteer Yourself! I think a well functioning sense of humor is vital for military life!

Just a note about the Marines bullying the Sailors.  The Sailors also have a saying about the Marines.

Do you know what Marine stands for????

Marines Always Ride In Navy Equipment!

The first letter of each word spells Marine!!!

It goes both ways and there will always be good and bad about every base.  Nowhere is Perfect!  But they learn to live with the good and bad where ever they go.

Don't let it stop you. Bangor is as good as any and such a beautiful part of the country.
