Thank you Cath. I don't know how you do it, it's been so hard already. Can He take his phone to school?
Proud Mom - my son is sonar. After PIR he flew to Groton. There, he did 8 weeks of BESS, several for ATT and Techno, and then A school. He was there from December 8 until November - almost a year.
I also didn't get many letters - and still do not hear from him often. Depending on the sub he ends up on - fast attack or boomer, you might not hear from him for months at a time.
Unless the sailors rate is Culinary or Nuke, he will be spending almost a year in Groton before being assigned to a sub. Hope that helps!
There is a FB page for groton which explains the various schools - ATT & Techno!
My son is going to be doing Sonar. Does anybody know if he will be staying in Chicago or going to Gorton? His recruiter said he would be staying in Chicago and then maybe going to Gorton. I am trying to get a clear answer so I know how long to book the hotel for. I still have yet to get a phone call from my son.. :-( This is his 5th week already and have only recieved 1 letter that didn't say much.
Merry Christmas to all!!!
Submoms, if you don't understand this announcement, then it probably doesn't apply to your son. No worries!

Submomlll, thanks for sharing, I found it on uTube after googling it & was able to post it on my FB page! My son is deployed right now, somewhere in the Pacific, running silent for the month, so no communication whatsoever, even over the holidays.
Merry Christmas Eve Eve!!! On one of my Facebook pages, there is song called Deep Blue Christmas - all about Christmas on a sub. I tried to share it here, but go check it out if I didn't link it correctly (I always seem to do something wrong!). I don't think it's on YouTube though......

Thanks
Wendy520.... my sailor just uses his computer. He can play DVD's, read books, etc. on it. Whatever you decide tell him to be careful with it. Sadly, even on a sub things do tend to disappear sometimes
