Hi Greek Mom, I'm from New York. J's/S'sm is correct, there are so many things do all over the state. I lived an hour from Niagara Falls, it's beautiful on both sides! There are so many state parks, the Finger Lakes are beautiful with a lot of wine trails, Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame. He may want to do some internet searching as well. I wish your sailor well, mine is winding down his career.

Hello J's/S/s Mom...Where are you from in Texas? We live in McQueeney near New Braunfels Texas (30 minutes from San Antonio). My son lived on the rivers in NB and even was a life guard for many years on the Comal river where tourists go tubing. I will mention the hiking trails to him. I see there are a lot of State Parks near him so I hope he ventures out more and checks them out. He wants to go to New York to Niagara Falls.

I started out being with the Nuke Moms but realized that I should with the Sub Moms! My son is in A School in Connecticut studying to be NOS MT (Submarines). He arrived in the first week of June. He seems to be adjusting well to A School and his new city. He loves the weather because growing up in South Texas was hot!! Again, so glad I am in the correct group now.  Greek Mom

Jill Graby - I do not have the name, number, or email of the ombudsman. Do you?
Comment by jillg64 on July 5, 2017 at 11:47am

TallyMon,  I will check with my daughter-in-law to see if she heard anything from the ombudsman. I get my information from her. You should be notified about mail drops and the sending the  halfway box. My son was just ferried out to the sub. He had been doing shore duty in Charleston and they needed a chief, that's why I don't know how long they have been underway. Do you have the ombudsman name or number?

Jill Graby - My son is also in Kings Bay - Maryland Gold! I am so glad to meet another mom! This is my son's first underway. I thought I was supposed to get contacted by the ombudsman to let me know about sending a halfway box. Do you know anything about this? I have never been contacted and I really, really want to send a box to him.
