ProudMom77 - have you tried asking on the loved ones of Groton CT sailors Facebook page?
Comment by elizabeth_fl on April 11, 2017 at 6:10am

Proudmom77: the providence is my husbands boat, we have been attached to her for almost 2 years so welcome to the family! Not sure about the boat address (I was under the impression they only used it for deployments/underways could be wrong though). His should have an address for his barracks room. I know when my husband was in Kingsbay, he had one.

My son has finished his A school and is now stationed in Groton, CT assigned to the USS Providence. He is staying in the barracks. I'm trying to find out what address to use to send him some goodies - he said we can send it to the boat, but I'm not sure how to address it. For now they are staying in Groton, not being deployed as of yet. He's supposed to get back to me with the address, but hasn't yet. Can anyone help?

Nuke ELT Mom, yes it's exactly as you described! We write and, if we're lucky, we get back 2-3 sentences a month later. My son knew he would be leaving soon so he called me every day & on the day he left. He knows how much we miss him but he doesn't like to hear about it. But I would rather write to him & not get an answer than for him to not get anything from us. His brother's in the Navy, too, but based closer to home so we see him every so often. As long as they are happy & safe, I'm OK. I keep telling him "This is an adventure! Not many people will ever experience the things you've experienced!" I still don't like Steel Beach. . .but it's an experience! Hang in there! The rest of us Navy Sub moms are with you! Be blessed!

Oceanslayer, my son is on the Newport News.  Did you son spend the night at the Comfort Suites last night?  My son was there with 7 guys.  My son is assigned to the Newport News and has been with them since March 2015.  If you want to send me your name in a private message I will give to the Ombudsman and the FRG group for the boat. I think it is a secret group but not sure so I do not want to give out the info without approval.  The boat has a new Ombudsman and FRG group they just started their term a couple of months ago.  My son is newly married and has only 15 days with his wife since they got married Dec 28th.  Since is in a contract job and lives in Jacksonville, FL until May when her contract is up.  She works at a college and was on so looking forward to spending the week with my son.  Well we are aware as of this morning that did not happen.

Can anyone help me sign up for the Newport News subs face book  page and how do I find out who the ombudsman is. Son said I was listed. He was assigned to this boat temporarily yesterday. Than you.

Hi Nuke ELT Mom...this is my youngest sons third deployment. I  know how you feel about writing to yourself...lol. I write to my son once a week too. I just tell him all the news that happened at home that week.

This group has been quiet lately. The Nuke group has been very active.

My son called from Hawaii the other day and talked to his mother while I was at work. I called him later. We don't do smalltalk that well, so we just talked a couple minutes, then I told him it was good to hear his voice. He replied "it's good to hear you too, Dad". He's such a good son.

Good for you Cath. As a matter of fact, Garrett, has been living in Florida for the past year, & leaves for MEPHS today in Miami, before flying out from there tomorrow to Great Lakes.

My son is underway someplace. I have not heard from him since he left. He is stationed in GA. We moved to FL a few months ago - loving the weather, no snow, low taxes, lots of sunshine!
