For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Hopefully someone more familiar with sub school will jump on and answer this for you. Your sailor should be able to get info from his command too.

Comment by WearsLargeHats on February 17, 2021 at 11:26pm: There is something like a beach resort at Dam Neck. We are hoping things open up later in the year so we can visit up there. Too, I am fond of Va Beach hotels with an ocean-view balcony. You can watch the ships come and go out of Norfolk, and Oceana NAS is like a constant airshow. Maybe there is some hope they will have the actual airshow in September.

My son is just finishing up his 3 years of Shore Duty there, and as a matter of fact just got his new orders today, for April. He had a lot of free, downtime that he relished, although this past year because of Covid restrictions, it put a damper on all the things he would have been able to do if it weren’t for the virus. Hopefully soon with vaccines coming out and herd immunity setting in, things will be able to start to open up, allowing your son to take full advantage of all that Virginia Beach has to offer. I know my son will miss Shore Duty, it was a nice break from being on a sub 24/7.

Comment by Tulip on February 17, 2021 at 8:10pm: Glad to be back on here and see some familiar names. My son is readying for an underway and his fiancé returns from deployment while he is gone. They haven’t seen each other for more than a year so praying his requested leave stays approved!

Hope all are staying safe and healthy and warm! In Memphis we are not set up to handle this much snow and below freezing temps. Sure is pretty to look at but not used to it any longer since we moved from Ohio more than 8 years ago.

I have not posted in awhile since not many changes in the last 3 years. But change is in the wind for my sailor. After 3 years in Bangor he will be stationed in Virginia Beach starting in late summer for his long awaited shore duty. He’s been on sub duty since he enlisted nearly 9 years ago with no break. He’s looking forward to the weather and this mom is looking forward to a new place to visit.

A friend of mine said she didn't know how we went so long without any contact - honestly we don't know either. Fact is, like everyone else on this page, it's what we had to do. Now we need COVID-19 to go away so we can visit :)

Comment by Catherine on May 13, 2020 at 7:26pm: Thanks again for all the info. I need to spend some time learning how to navigate this site. Seems to be a mixture of older (out of date?) info and new stuff. Will be exciting to learn where he will ultimately be stationed! Think he is interested most in fast attack subs. His first big adjustment will be living in Groton, CT for A-School given that we are from the desert Southwest! Am sure school will keep him pretty busy (and he won't have a vehicle) but hoping he gets to explore outside of the base a little. Husband and I also hope to visit him there at some point.
