CO-twin...when my bubblehead goes out, I always get "Under the Sea" from Little Mermaid in my head! My sister, his favorite aunt, goes with "Yellow Submarine"! ;)

My surface twin sailor making shellback

Trying to find my pics from the Steel Beach parties and the swim duty.  Had pics of sailors with BIG guns standing shark watch duty.

WellMy nuke is under the sea. Been singing Sponge Bob. Hope he is not getting sea sick. Will be looking forward to stories of his first time out on his boat. He said he starts over with Quals for dolphins for Subs. He said he will be getting yelled at a lot, but found out CO's favorite items and stocked up ahead of time to smooth things over.

No FB messages from his twin, means they must be done traveling and are down to brass tacks and are in mission mode.

Wild weather here. A first for me, tornado sirens going off. What do all the neighbors do??? they all go stand in the street to try to spot one. LOL

My son is on a sub and I did see pics of a swim call-some were in the water and some were on their cell phones.  And someone is always on watch looking for "things" in the water that could cause problems.  :)  Oh and he's on a fast attack.

And I can tell you that my hubby, who rode a boomer in the cold war, never had a swim call in the North Atlantic!
Comment by Rhonda8881 on June 4, 2015 at 5:39pm

My son was on a sub for 5 years and only had 1 "steel beach" stop. It was a swim call because subs don't have a big enough surface for a party!!!
The ocean water has to be very calm for them to have a swim call because there is no rescue boat to retrieve anyone who gets too far away!

From my experience with Molly's Adopt A Sailor, MOST of the Steel Beach Parties are on surface ships.

Comment by SunflowerMom on June 4, 2015 at 12:00pm

I have enjoyed reading your posts about steal beach parties, they sound like fun.  I didn't think that they still happened based on conversations with my sailor (boomer).  It must be based on command.

Comment by LoriM (div 337--Kevin's submom) on June 4, 2015 at 12:00pm

Wow, so the "steal beach parties" are real. I am sure my son would have told us about it. Maybe he will get on this time out since it is summer time. The other times he has been out it was winter or fall.
