For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Comment by BunkerQB on November 15, 2014 at 3:32am: BTW, right before our son's first big deployment, we got a little packet - actually it was very well put together - with a list of emergency numbers - name and contact info of the ombuds people. I think every boat is different.

Comment by BunkerQB on November 15, 2014 at 3:30am: William, the secret Facebook group created for my son's sub by the ombudsman (woman) was mostly for wives and moms. I don't remember if there was a dad in the group. However, it was worth joining just to see the photos. The captain sent out a message one time. For fundraiser, they had a wonderful blanket with the boat's logo. I also got word of the activities the group was preparing for homecoming, I really enjoyed hearing all about their activities even though we were in CA and they were in HI.

My husband does not do social networking but he was the one who found this site for me to join (and he loves seeing photos).

Comment by William in Nashua on November 15, 2014 at 3:07am: My son has been on the submarine 2 years in January and I have no idea who is the ombudsman for the boat. He said the ombudsman is for nervous wives not parents and if he needs anything for any underway he will buy it himself. I did get him a music player and a video game as a parting gift and his brother bought him another game. But we handed it to him before he went.

Comment by Phoebs on November 14, 2014 at 11:35pm: Is it normal to get a text message from the ombudsman. It said Mail drop told me the approved package and labeling to use and a time it had to be there? My first time with this experience and since I was unaware this would happen I ignored the text. Now I feel bad that I at least didn't try to send a package. Problem is where we live I received the message on Monday and they needed the package by Wednesday at 4 pm. we don't have overnight delivery to anywhere from here. We pay for it but it won't get there. Any suggestions for the next go around? Am I reading things correctly my son can provide the ombudsman information to me prior to departure so I can send something earlier?

Comment by Annette on November 14, 2014 at 8:38pm: When hubby was in (we were just dating at the time), I remember the smell being quite strong coming out of his seabag when he opened it. Very distinct, though I can't recall exactly what it smelled like. Our son said once he spent some time on board he had boat smell all over him. He also said he liked the boat smell! He left this week on his first underway.

My grandson said he probably won't see it happen cause things go very slow in the Navy

Comment by bcgoldy03 on November 14, 2014 at 10:00am: Also for holiday gift idea for a submariner, my sailor has a much younger brother who drew a colorful scene with a smiling sunshine. Younger brother signed it with a personal message and we then had that artwork transferred onto a standard sized pillow case so that our sailor could see some sunshine every day! He was underway for 140 days and he said that pillow case brought a smile to his face each of those days. As a mom you could draw your own scene and put your own message. The company we used to put it on the pillowcase was called Square1art.com
